Sony BVM-20F1U Screen Problem

Post by Ronin »

Hello. I have a Sony BVM-20F1U. I haven't used it for a couple months, but used it today to play some games that I just got off ebay. I noticed something strange when I turned it on. It is hard to describe, but it is like a discoloration or blur on part of the screen. It is most prominent on the left bottom corner of the screen, but there seems to be slight discolorations in the other corners as well. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the physical screen itself, as it only appears when the tv is on. This makes me wonder if it has something to do with the lamp inside the monitor.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? And if so, are there any suggestions on how I might fix it? If it's not clear what I am talking about, I could try to post a picture of it. Any help would be much appreciated!

You got external speakers on the sides? The magnets can affect the screen... mine did. I had to move the speakers farther back to fix it. Also try hitting the degauss button if you haven't already.

discolouration suggests that it may need manual degausing.

It worked! I had just moved my monitor to a new setup before I started having the problem. The new setup included having the speakers positioned on the sides of the screen. I just pushed the speakers back and the problem was solved! Many thanks! :D

It's best to used shielded speakers next to crt's. Most computer speakers are shielded.

even when they say they're shielded, they're not shielded enough so some magnetic leakage occurs. and most of the big manufacturers aren't even thinking about CRT users anymore.

Happy to help. I was in a similar predicament and was racking my brain as to why the corners of the screen were wonky. BTW I use these really good "computer speakers" http://amzn.to/2cr9H6x but still had to move them farther back from the front of the screen.

Wow, those are some nice speakers! Yeah, after pushing mine back the problem went away. It is nice to have any easy fix. I almost went looking for a repair man, lol. It's a great monitor for retro gaming. Now the only problem I have is with the alignment. I need to adjust the alignment depending on which game system I am using. It would be nice to just assign different alignment settings to different channels, but for some reason when I change the alignment on one channel it changes on all channels. It is kind of a pain in the butt to have to readjust everthing every time I want to switch consoles. I don't suppose you have experienced this problem before, have you?
