The Great Reboot/Remake/Rerelease/Revamp/Port Thread

Post by Durandal »

Because I'm afraid of sounding like a broken record, I've decided to make one big thread for upcoming releases which are just a remake or reboot or whatever off existing intellectual property, because that's what all the cool kids on the block are doing nowadays.

Starting off, we have Duke Nukem celebrating his 20th anniversary by running for president and being rereleased on Steam again, this time with a new episode designed by ol' Levelord, new music by ol' Lee Jackson, and more Duke Talk of ol' JSJ (those new lines sound completely lifeless, I hope the rumors about Duke saying bazinga aren't true). Coming on October 11th.

Also, Suda51 wants to remake Killer7. Maybe Capcom will be nice and port it to PC too.

Liar. I've known you only from latexmachomen.com and pantysniffers.org forums.

I like how they're rebooting Prey. By making a new game that has literally nothing to do with the original game and giving it the same name.

On Duke Nukem 3D, new episode sounds great, but I'm disappointed that it's not coming to Vita. Normally you would go "of course it's not coming to Vita", but the Vita version of Duke Nukem 3D was delisted with promises from Gearbox that Duke Nukem 3D would be returning to digital platforms...

Nice timing; I was looking at the Metal Slug ports on Steam earlier today. I've heard rumblings that the Metal Slug 2 Steam version fixes the slowdown; on the other hand, some people say that it's even worse than the original. Does anyone know which of these is accurate? If it's an upgrade over the System11/Trap15 turbo version, I'll probably grab it (2 Turbo > X).

My guess would be it's more DotEmu trash (+DRM since that's what the last two "ports" had), so nothing to get excited over.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I don't recommend it. MS2 has a 56-57 framerate for me, which I heard is typical for dotemu. Slowdown does seem to be less than the original, but the trade off is not a good one.
