The texture quality, vibrant colors, sharp-sharp image...everything. Then again, I'm playing my DC through VGA to Component adapter on a 27" Samsung HD ready
TV. It's probably the second best looking shooter on the DC behind Zero Gunner 2 (which hopefully Under Defeat will destroy). Again, my opinion.
I agree, Giga Wing 2 and Ikuraga as well are great looking shmups and are prime examples of what a polygon based shooter can look like if more time is spent on detailing the polygon textures.
Maybe he meant Giga Wing Generation?
No i meant GigaWing 2. Ikaruga is the bestlooking shooter on the DC by far, if not the bestlooking 3d shooter. In Ikaruga everything works together and looks professional.
I actually like the idea of theme they got going in GW2 with the pirateship looking ships and the baroque feel of it, but the different graphical elements of the game look botched together. For example the textbox in the cutscenes. The sprites in game dont really mesh well with the look of the 3d and the front end in all looks rather thrown together imo.
Worst of all, and I actually had to laugh when recognised it, are the difference clouds multiplied ontop of the character pictures in the cutscenes. Both Zerogunner2 and Borderdown look way better as well imo. Just my 2 cents.
Graphics..
1.the port looks very arcade-faithful and couldn't find any details missing
2. The screen options are exaclty same as mushihimesama, and the yoko, tate screens have that BLURRY filter just like mushi
3. however the yoko mode in Ibara look more crisp than Mushi in my opinion
game..
1. you get Arcade+ practice(just like mushi), arrange mode and gallery.
2. There are 2 difficulty options, I am guessing one of them is bullet speed
3. there are loading times between stages but they are not too bad
arrange mode..aka black label?
1. you use 4 buttons shot, bomb, choosing options formation(normal, back, rotating, chasing) and choosing side weapons.
2. holding down shot button slows down your ship but increases shot firing rate.
3. notable changes in enemy bullet patterns
overall
1. the port feels very much like the Mushi ps2 port(similar options and all)
2. My first impression of Ibara.. lots of debris, lots of explosions=good frantic visuals / gameplay is great although I think I will grade Ibara below ESPGALUDA and MUSHI over time

So it looks bad then, yeah?
For anyone that cares, Famitsu gave it a 7,7,6,6. The main complaints seem to be about bullets indistinguishable from background. They did give bonus points for the arrange mode though.

OK I'm no low-res expert, but it looks like it is 1:1 resolution in tate. Sammaza, you are playing on an arcade monitor, can you see shimmering or is it 1:1 res? At first I thought it was scaled because there is this warping filter on the water in stage 1 that makes it shimmery and pixellated. Everything else looks proper, I can see scanlines. Either way it looks nice and clear. This is coming from someone who cannot see bullets in either Garegga or Batrider.
You can shoot your guns (but not bomb) during the load times, plus they are not long anyway. Arrange mode is juice.
-Actually have "1ups" in the game (havent seen that for a while)
-Level 1 looks crappy! Level 2,3,4,5 look AMAZING! the "fatory\industrial complex is just too much color...but its a different game after level 1
-level 2,3 are pure cave goodness...animations on the ground enemies are so cool...better than mushi!
-level 3 has these birds that fly up from a canyon and you can see how good the animations are there...
-while playing i keep saying "WOW...this feels just like..ESP ra de, Battle bakraid, and Raiden 2 jet mixed together and juiced up!!!
-they have mixed all the good elements of the best shooters
-NO SLOWDOWN! Multiple bosses and bullet patterns with Missiles and NO SLOWDOWN!
-FIRE WEAPONS ROCK!!!!! the flame effect is sweeeet
Initial overall impression 8/10
Cave has hit the nail on the head with this one!
Questions :
-I can only change controler settings to "SHOOT" or "BOMB" Is it a 2 button fighter? I heard mentioned earlier that the arcade version supports 4 buttons?
-also my "shoot" button acts just like an auto-fire button...If you hold it it doesnt charge up...is that right?
I couldn't wait either. Homura, Rajirugi, and Ibara are in the mail.
As far as I can tell, it is pretty much identical to Mushihimesama port-wise. I played on a 20" TV -- I don't have a fancy display. Tate is fine, but yoko has the same badness. The load times are about the same.
BTW...Can anyone think of a good marquee to stick in the "lighted area" on my neocandy 29? I just stuck a chopped up old marquee in there to block the light for now...
This is one game that would have really benefitted from a pixel perfect low res tate mode as there is so much going on.
The game itself is a welcome return of the Garegga/Bakraid formula and is certainly entertaining, Just a bit dissapointing that the port's graphic options aren't doing the game any favours.
I've got it coming sometime soon from P-A but in all honesty if I had played the port before I bought it then I probably wouldn't have bothered.
6/10 And only that high thanks to the fact we haven't seen a raizing style game in the last 4+ years. If you can afford to get one of the original PCB's and play it clearly as designed then its well worth it as the core game has good merits.
you'll just have to learn to 'deal' with the "fuzzy" high res look thats all. i'm sure we'll get used to 'seeing' the debris better after a while (just like with Garegga, right?)
i can remember the first time i played BG, i was like "omg i hate this game i cant see the bullets", then sure enough it was one of my fave games of all time
surely cave wouldnt release a game that's unplayable, right?
The game hurts your eyes to begin with, in it's much more crisper form. Interlaced, it's even harder on the eyes. Bah -- not buying it. I don't even like it that much.

Even thouh I bitch the most about interlaced output on Taito ports, I'd never pass them up on this aspect alone. GigaWing Generations maybe for lack of tate...but I still like the game play. I'm sure you'll come crawling back to Ibara when you are hungry for more old school Raizing goodness.
Never was a diehard Rizing fan... and I've still got a $2k+ investment in ESPGaluda II which I've not been able to get a satisfactory score on. Getting there, but I've go quite a ways to go. O_o
I'm sure I'll pick it up used one day.

Much more bullets and lower bullets speed. Just don't know whether the hitbox is smaller in this mode.

Well the control is more simple and the bullet speed is much lower this time. It's good to shmupers new to the Garegga/Bakraid formula, like me.
But simplier control and lower bullet speed doesn't mean the game is easily.
