What is svideo on a dell monitor like?

Post by neorichieb1971 »

My friend has some old LCD Dell monitors that HP are throwing out. My son got one last night and I noticed it has svideo on it.

Is it worth me doing a test on it? (my playstations are in storage at the moment).

I can get another monitor from my friend. I believe its 5:4, it swivels the wrong way (I think)

Not sure of exact model but looks like this -

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure 100% on the S-video quality on that monitor but if can actually display that resolution which is not a guarantee then the quality will depend on its scaler. Doesn't even look like it has an S-video input. If you want to stick to small LCD then I suggest you look at the Sharp models of that size. There was a poster that connected his PS2 on a Sharp monitor to play 240p games and the image quality was actually pretty decent. I'd look for his thread which he made a few months ago.

My U2711 doesn't have s-video, but I can say that it has terrible composite video support. Bad image quality, laggy, bad 240p support.

I'll not bother unpacking boxes to get my systems out then.

I have a component vga converter I am sure that would work better than svideo direct into it.

Well, if you already have the stuff to hook up, it's worth a shot, maybe it works better than composite did, and maybe you're less sensitive to that stuff than I am. Component will definitely look better, though.

Word of warning, though, the PS1 does not support component video. It does support RGB, though. The PS2 and PS3 support component.
