Hey,
I have the opportunity to get a Sony Trinitron KV-25FX20D. Haven't found anything about the picture quality. I "desperatly" need a CRT without 100hz and this seems to be one and 25" is also a perfect tube in my opinion. The case is also perfect for tateing. I'll get him for free but have to drive a longer distance and need to know if its worth the time a money for driving.
Sony Trinitron KV-25FX20D suitable/nice for gaming?

Re: Sony Trinitron KV-25FX20D suitable/nice fot gaming? urge
The FD trinitrons (completely flat ones) TEND to have slightly worse convergence and geometry than the curved models before them, but after all that's definitely a very solid set.

FE1A chassis, you'll find the service menu easily.
Make sure it comes with the original remote !

This is true, especially out of the box. However generally nothing that can't be corrected with service menu tweaks or for even better results by opening the set and tweaking it manually. There are big advantages to the flatter screens to make up for this though, better colors and often a sharper picture I find too.Fudoh wrote:The FD trinitrons (completely flat ones) TEND to have slightly worse convergence and geometry than the curved models before them, but after all that's definitely a very solid set.
As for the thread's question, I've never even seen an FX series set. How interesting...

Oh yes but with the service menu you can usually take care of the minor geometry flaws.
About that FX series; aside from the SmartLink feature (some vague interaction with VCR's) it seems pretty classic, I would say the nicest thing is indeed its darker grey frame/casing.

Re: Sony Trinitron KV-25FX20D suitable/nice for gaming?
So now I got one Sony Trinitron KV-25FX20D (for a box of praline) and one KV-21LT1E (payed 5€)
.
I play videogames for about 25 years now and just realised, that most of the time I had 100Hz CRT´s.
As I tested those 50Hz Trinitrons I suddenly fell in love with real scanlines.
I have a couple of Metz and Grundig CRT´s with 100Hz, which are VGA capable.
Those are really nice for Dreamcast and Emulation of PS2/NAOMI etc. and even MAME when you like to use stuff like 3xBRZ.
I think MAME with 3xBRZ looks really nice at a CRT with 640x480 resolution.
Now with scanlines, perfect for MAME, NeoGeo, CPS1,2,3 , PlayStation, SegaSaturn and so on at native resolution and without stuff like xBRZ.
The best is, I realised that every TV has a service menu with a lot of settings
Managed to get into service menu of the Trinitrons, at Grundig and Metz I first have to try but have the service manual with instructions.
Questions:
1.
The problem now with those Trinitrons, I can turn on the geometry of the screen but can´t see the picture while doing so. I just can alter a value, then reset the TV and see what´s the result. Is there any way to switch between the picture of my game and the service menu?
2.
I have tested my Saturn and PSone with nice resuts. But when I hook up my PS2 and play some GigaWing Generations or Homura the picture is sh.t. The whole screen is flickering and there seems to be a lot more aliasing with flickering edges. This flickering is also with the other consoles, but not as noticable. Has this something to do with the cables I used? Used Euro-Scart. Or is this flickering with all 50Hz CRT´s? I remember seeing some CRTs with this kind of flickering, but not all. What can I do against this? At the 100Hz TV´s there is also flickering in some parts of the picture, but with the CAM-Filter option this can be eleminated.
3.
Is there a table or any info online, about what all those options in the service menu do? Looking for all of my CRT´s like Sony, Grundig and Metz.

is that so ? I remember that on my Sonys back in the 90s the SM displayed fine just over the games. If yours doesn't try feeding composite video instead (through Scart). The RGB overlay of the SM should display fine over this. The problem now with those Trinitrons, I can turn on the geometry of the screen but can´t see the picture while doing so. Regarding #2: what you see are 480i titles. It's pretty much the same with all 50/60Hz tubes, yes.
