I'd like to compile a list of all working breakout style games that support this little controller.
Confirmed working breakout style Namco Volume Controller games:
-Arkanoid Returns
-Arkanoid R2000
-Block Kuzushi - Deden no Gyakushuu
-Serofans (SLPS-01081) http://site.douban.com/210372/widget/no ... 282610083/
-Action Puzzle: Prism Land [Honkakuha de Series] [SLPS-02586](Japanese version of Sorcerer's maze) http://psxdatacenter.com/games/P/P/SLES-03284.html
-Pururun! With Shape Up Girls [SLPS-00679] http://www.gamespek.com/foro/kb.php?a=150
-Blockids
-Puchi Carat
-Cutie Q in the Japanese release of Namco Museum Vol. 2.
-Bomb Bee in the Japanese release of Namco Museum Vol. 2.
-Super Breakout (Atari Arcade Classics Vol.1)
And apparantly all negcon compatible games https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeGcon
-Tempest X3 should thus be playable as well (not a break out clone at all though)
So what other breakout style games support the Namco Volume Controller SLPH-00015?
Maybe it's also good to mention which games/versions do not support it at all, even though they could've supported it. These games do NOT support the volume controller:
-Block Kuzushi Kowashite Help!
-Simple 1500 Series Vol.14 - The Block Kuzushi
-Hello Kitty Block Kuzushi
-Sorcerer's maze (US version of Action Puzzle: Prism Land)
-Block Wars
My white Namco Volume Controller has this serial number on the bottom: NPC-102.
Strange since when googling that it seems to be for the namco arcade stick

Mini review and instructions of Block Kuzushi - Deden no Gyakushuu
http://psxdatacenter.com/games/J/B/SLPS-00353.html
This game is great, just make sure to NOT choose the main story mode, because you will need to switch between normal ps1 controller and volume controller to go through the levels.
To start the game & navigating you need a normal ps1 controller, but when you enter a game you can use just the volume controller. (except for the previously mentioned story mode)
Pick the bottom left option to just play the levels. After I had completed 10 levels I got the option to save.
I assume that after every 10 levels succeeded you can save your progress.
Playing with the normal ps1 controller the shoulder buttons make the color of the ball and paddle toggle between pink and yellow color. Not sure if this affects the game or is just to make it more clear in some levels.
Even playing with a normal ps1 controller it plays good with the x button speeding up your paddle.
This game also has 2 player mode either against the cpu or player 2.
Get this game, it's the best volume controller game I've played so far.
Other games I've recently tested:
-Arkanoid R 2000 is okay, but a bit stiff and stale. Also doesn't play as well as Block Kuzushi - Deden no Gyakushuu
-Serofans is VERY VERY basic that might disappoint most

Action Puzzle: Prism Land is also a pretty cool game, I'd rate it just below Block Kuzushi - Deden no Gyakushuu.
The cool thing of Action Puzzle: Prism Land is that the whole game navigating, etc.. can be done with the volume controller. The game does not have the usual square blocks, but focusses more an alternatively shaped items to destroy with the ball. Animation is really good in this game.
There are several different releases http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/915208-sorcerers-maze/data

There's Cutie Q and Bomb Bee in the Japanese release of Namco Museum Vol. 2.

Added to the list, thanks for pointing that out. I knew about them, but the screenshots and video didn't look that exciting and I quickly disregarded them.nem wrote:There's Cutie Q and Bomb Bee in the Japanese release of Namco Museum Vol. 2.

Re: Namco Volume Controller SLPH-00015 (NPC-102) games list
Yes, I bought one of those cool Namco Volume Controller in Japan back in early 2000. Namco never sold it at retail for the North American PSX marketbase anyways. Was pleasantly surprised to see that it works with Tempest X3 and Super Breakout (plus Tempest but the C-shooter character spins continously if the volume knob is moved just a tad bit in either direction but has built-in dedicated PSX mouse controller support for better player control-wise + stopping on a dime if the situation calls for it) on the Atari Arcade Classics Vol.1 for the PSX platform (you can also use the slick Nyko PSX Trackball controller that Nyko had to consult with Dan Kramer {designer/engineer of the cool Atari 2600 & 5200 Trakball controllers back in the day} to get it to work properly before it went on sale in November of 1998 stateside {with a MSRP of $44.99 USD} with both aforementioned USA region PSX game titles as well).
The Hori Paddle controller add-on for the NDS Lite handheld was "spot on" with the weighted fly-wheel in minature form -- how cool is that? It's ace for playing both Space Invaders Extreme 1 & 2 at it's best.
I can recall with fond memories of playing the actual Atari Tempest upright cabinet and spin the rotary knob controller super hard 'n' fast & it'd spin for a long time back in the early 1980s -- it has a hefty weighted flywheel setup (which explains why it could spin for such a long duration before slowing down to a crawl). Ironically, I tried to see if a 100% working & restored Tempest upright cab's rotary knob spinner could spin fast & effortlessly at the recent July 2016 California Extreme classic arcade game & pinball show & it was no dice (of course back in the early 1980s, the Temepst arcade controls were in better shape & maintained/replaced with new controls if it needed be courtesy of the arcade operator/distributors with their arcade games out on street locations locally -- those were the days of arcade gaming lore). I did see a classified ad out in the main lobby for a Tempest cocktail-table styled cab for a mere $900.00 USD at the '16 CAX show -- makes me wonder if anyone bought it or not.

Arkanoid Returns SLPS 00948 original release also supports the volume controller.
The controller comes in three colour variants.
