They're not really a problem to be remedied, they're there to hold the aperture grille on! I was only ever really bothered by it with pure white screens myself.LDigital wrote:Can it be remedied or they are inside the glass?
Though to confirm, are they around these positions?
PS1 Disc-Based Game ID BIOS patch for MemCard Pro and SD2PSX automatic VMC switching.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Yes, the lines generally split the screen in thirds. How visible they are depends upon the particular tube. They are a lot more subtle on my Mitsubishi DP900u than equivalent Sony tubes I've seen.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Yeah, I own a Sony KD-34XBR960 HD CRT and there are two lines that run across the screen, dividing it into equal thirds. It's most noticeable on white backgrounds.
Must apply to all aperature grill CRTs, especially Sony sets.

Ah ok then. Mine are both a little higher up than the diagram but it's probably just that. 240p you can position the v center to make them invisible but on 480p and 720p they cant be masked due to how fine the scanlines are. 480i makes them invisible too. They aren't that bad but once I have seen them ...

Bright colors shake like this on my Sony KV-21FQ10E, but less bright ones don't, and it's not confined to a specific area of the screen. Everyone's pictures here look so crisp, and if my memory serve me right, a CRT doesn't shake like this by default, at least not the channel number. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Another video for demonstration purposes, albeit the first one is clearer https://youtu.be/CfFSPGONiWQ

I would, assuming they function fine. Unquestionably.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
It looks like a 20" 15KHz monitor with 600 TVL and RGB support. Spec-wise, it seems a lot like the PVM-20L2, only using a shadow mask and curved both horizontally and vertically instead of only horizontally as the PVM is.
Those particular Ikegami are reported to be quite good, based on what I've read, and on this thread about that particular model from last year:

Yeah, I saw that thread a bit earlier. I've got a PVM 20M2MDU that I've been using for the last four years, so I'm rather curious to see how the shadow mask stacks up.Guspaz wrote:It looks like a 20" 15KHz monitor with 600 TVL and RGB support. I called the guy up earlier and he said they're in good condition, though he doesn't seem to know a whole lot about them. I'll probably go take a look at them within the next few days and grab 'em if their work fine.Einzelherz wrote:I would, assuming they function fine. Unquestionably.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
So I recently purchased a BVM D20F1U. Great monitor, but I'm running into some issues with it. There are some problems where on certain games it appears like something is wrong with the sync signal. I can't find what specifically about these games it's causing this. These games include any Dreamcast game in 480i RGB (but not Composite or VGA) and Donkey Kong 64 in 240p. I looked everywhere for a solution but haven't seen anyone who has come across this issue. If anyone knows anything about this, let me know. Thanks.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Is it a CG1950? I've been dying to find one of those. I have the 15 and it's pretty nice.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I have Sony PVM that says PVM-20M2E on monitor's back label but PVM-20M4E on OSD menu. Anyone has seen anything similar and know which one I should trust? Seller sold it to me as PVM-20M4E and I noticed mixed labels too late. Also I have found Ebay listing of a similar case here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-PVM-20M4 ... 7675.l2557. Check the pictures on that one.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Opinions on Extron DVS 304 compared to something like an iScan Pro or HD? It is considerably cheaper than the latter. I know Fudoh had scheduled to review it this year, but does anyone have the quick and dirty on it?

I would trusty the OSD as that's much more difficult to spoof than swapping a sticker or back panel.Decoryah wrote:I have Sony PVM that says PVM-20M2E on monitor's back label but PVM-20M4E on OSD menu. You can post some up close game pics here, several people could help determine if it's 600 or 800 tvl.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
been on my table for years. I won't review it for anything else but CHEAP 24khz upscaling (e.g. Model 2 boards). Not worth it for 240p upscaling.Opinions on Extron DVS 304 compared to something like an iScan Pro or HD? It is considerably cheaper than the latter. Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Yes, you surely got the 20M2E, the 600TVL version, if that's what the OSD says. The back shell could easily be swapped out.Decoryah wrote:I have Sony PVM that says PVM-20M2E on monitor's back label but PVM-20M4E on OSD menu. It'd be fruitless to accuse them directly of false advertising, but I'd contact eBay and explain to them that the seller advertised a better model than actually was sold.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
There's a guy on youtube with videos of a Megadrive and NeoGeo running through RGB with a scanline generator. I'd say for $20 it'd be worth a pickup, but I wouldn't pay more than that.Fudoh wrote:been on my table for years. I won't review it for anything else but CHEAP 24khz upscaling (e.g. Model 2 boards). Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
It's hard to see in the video, but NG is scaled to a fullscreen output, which makes the scanline alignment a complete mess. And also don't forget that you need clean sync on the input, so you need probably a stripper which increases the price.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I tend to do that. If it's really a m4e then it's all good, except for the poor person who gets a m2e advertised as the m4e.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Yes, in OSD menu it says PVM-20M4E and I tend to believe more on that aswell but it would be nice to be certain. Below are some pictures I took. Hopefully those help to decide if my monitor really is PVM-20M2E or PVM-20M4E. Quality is not awesome though because I only had iPhone camera to use.

Haha, thanks! That fixed those issues for all of the 240p/480i games. I'm still having minor issues with some 480p games though. These are more sporadic, so they don't always happen and sometimes happen worse than other times.LDigital wrote:Try going into the maintenance menu (1111 or 9999) and turning on vcr modeDoctorPain99 wrote:So I recently purchased a BVM D20F1U. The D20F1U is a great monitor and I certainly recommend it. However, it's probably not that much better than something like the 20L5. I would advise against spending too much money on a D20F1U and passing up a deal on a 20L5. Happy hunting!

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
It would take some serious equipment and skill to fake that ID string, it wouldn't happen accidentally. And for what purpose? To make the model seem less attractive than it really is? I think you can be certain it's an 20m4e. You might email the seller and ask them if they have swapped back shells, if you're worried.Decoryah wrote:Yes, in OSD menu it says PVM-20M4E and I tend to believe more on that aswell but it would be nice to be certain.

Would it actually be that difficult? At least if the M2's service manual is any hint, it would seem like that'd actually be changeable via the service menu.Ed Oscuro wrote:It would take some serious equipment and skill to fake that ID string, it wouldn't happen accidentally.
