at this point i do believe people are biting the bullet and upgrading (or using a second system for homebrew, and not sweating the upgrade). if only i could afford to buy 2...
I have no sig whatsoever.

Wouldn't that just be a port of the PS1/Saturn Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus though (give or take a bunch of possible extras... possibly throwing in the FC and PC-Engine versions)? Plus, one of Salamander's main features is the 2-player simultaneous option. If they removed it from Gaiden, what's to say they wouldn't pull it from a Salamander collection?

re: the previous question, unfortunately nobody has figured out an exploit to run the UMD on earlier firmware. Technically i could afford another PSP but lugging two around feels like overkill and kinda defeats the purpose of convenience IMHO. I am sure fanjita will have an exploit sooner or later.

Before I receive it, could someone break down what option is what (screen size, save states, config save, ect) in the Save menus (since the Silicon era review said the save screen is the only menu in Japanese)? Or is that just referring to the memory stick duo screen?
The game is 100% English, included the ending credit(I've 1CCed Gaiden so far.), option menus and save menus.
Thanks for the clarification. I mean, I import shooters with Japanese menus all the time, but since this game has more config options I wanted to be sure.

To be honest, I don't really mind losing the 2P option in Gaiden (or hypothetically, Salamander). I can't say I've ever been a fan of playing shmups with someone else simultaneously, and rarely do - even when the option is there. They always seem a bit too "serious" for that.

^^^^

When it's 2P alternating, I don't care too much. 2P simultaneous is another story obviously.

Hell, I updated my PSP firmware just so I could watch a pr0n UMD. Updating for Gradius should be a no-brainer...

 ... People watching portable pr0n. I bet the rate of public masterbation cases goes up.

EDIT - public masterbation and Gradius in the same thread?

Firware upgrade is required to watch those Japanese AV UMDs? Or some other porno UMDs that I don't know about?

Not public. Just anywhere in my own home and not just in front of the computer :p

And the first round of pr0n UMDs published run fine on 1.50, I think by the time the second round of titles came around, they were already requiring 2.0 and up.

Meanwhile, back on topic... I should be getting my copy sometime this week hopefully. I'll have to see these screen size issues for Gaiden for myself. I can live with a tiny screen as long as the aspect ratio isn't all screwed up.

To people masturbating in public places, remember women have camera phones now. Some idiot in the NY subway got caught showing his wee wee to a girl some months ago.

MSZ: where did you find that pic anyway? I love looking at galleries worth of pictures from events like this, where there are so many wonderful things that I'd love to have but have absolutely no chance of ever coming in contact with. It's great, really.

I found the pic at this site: http://www.gpara.com/special/event/wf2006win/index.htm

At first I was looking for new gunplas(Gundam Plastic Model)in that event and then I found that pic with those Vic Viper models.

So, how is the screen bluring? I have not really heard anything about this but if any knows what I am talking about please answer.

When I was emulating the Gradius games on my PSP the star field was really blurry due to the crappy refresh rate of the PSP screen. I don't know if I have super sensitive eyes or something, but it really bothers me. In THUG2#R (I had to review it, don't give me any shit!) the refresh rate of the PSP screen mixed with the blurring background actually made me physically ill to the point of vomiting. I still have yet to see any PSP 2D game that does not have blurring, but somefan boy told me that "yes, totally Konami knows what they're doin'. they won't put blurring in there." Well, the thing is, there is no way to make it not blur as far as I know.

Let's boil this down to something simple: This looks no different than any other PSP 2D does it? I have the Gradius Delux Pack for the Saturn and Gaiden on my PS1 and Gradius III & IV on my PS2, I would rather keep my psp for homebrew and emulation, but this package almost put me over the top.

~hi for anyone who remembers me.

I personally would prefer it if they made a Z.O.E. version of the Viper, transformable, that thing is awesome. Even if it is classified as a Super-LEV.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Just got my copy yesterday. YesAsia > Play-Asia.

I'll go with the analog pad, thank you very much. With the D-pad it's so hard to press diagonally, and with the analog pad it's easy to move the wrong way if I tilt my PSP.

Other than that, I'm having a blast with this collection. Except Gradius III, which is still masturbation fodder for those with a frustration fetish, and Gradius II, which has crappy respawn points--get to the last stage and die during or just before the core wall, and watch what happens when you respawn.

Well finally got my copy yesterday, I love it. Best shooter comp to date. The menus and presentation are very well done. My first time playing Gaiden, incredible game so far (love the snow worm and the Core ship junkyard) I'll definitely be picking up a PS1 copy soon.

My only gripe is what on earth happened to Gradius 3? We all know the game has slowdown, but it plays so slowly on this pack (just as the silicon era review said, even on wait level zero), it is like trying to run the game through an emulator on a low end PC. I have only tried the first 2 stages but I was able to weave between bullets and bubbles with the greatest of ease. :? Then again, this will actually make some folks happy. ha

Otherwise though, all other games run very smoothly and look great, uneven screen display options aside. I am very glad I decided to import it.

I got my awesome 8ing shirt from rb who sold them last year. He just recently finished orders for a Cave/DDP themed shirt (with print that says "Prosecutd to the fullextent of the jam" haha) You can e-mail him if you want: [email protected] Dunno if he'd be willing to make you another 8ing shirt at this point but ya never know if the orice is right. :P

I need to find a cheap copy online. I need an import for my PSP, and it'll give me a chance to put my knowledge of the Japanese language to practical use.

The instruction manual anyways. :P As mentioned before, everything is in english with the exception of the memory stick duo save screen.

Whoops, shows just how lazy I am. But awesome, if a little bit strange, because that means it'll be even easier to understand.
