Looking for someone to consolize a GameGear for me

Post by the_importer »

I'm not simply looking to output RGB from my GameGear, I actually want to have something that looks like a console where I insert games, plug a Genesis controller and had outputs in the back. If you know someone or offers these services, drop me a PM.

Thanks

I would love to see how this turns out if you find someone to do this.

Does much have to be done to get RGBs out of it in 240p?

Lukemorse1 did a consolized GG a while back. He made a youtube video explaining all the necessary steps.

This seems like it'd be a fun rapid prototype design project.

Any idea on the cost / run quantity?

Also, will this work for all revisions of the console?

This has much to be added(e.q side panels) I think total cost of the console will be $250. Yes it works with all revisions.
We may sell the plexi case separately too.

Saw this several years back and thought it takes the crown for the most awesome looking GGTV conversion!

If someone was willing to get injection molded cases made ($$$$$) as well as the decals, this would be a great way to consolize the GG with Tim's GGTV.

That's pretty cool looking. Ahh good ole game gear, shining force on that was my favourite game by far!

I'm surprised there was no cart adapter for genesis released to run the games. From what I understand game gear is basically master system hardware with increased colour palette. I'm pretty sure they made an adapter for the game gear so you could play master system games on it.

Increased colour palette is kind of the problem. About the only way they could have achieved it would be to patch the colour palettes in real-time as they were moved to VRAM, but you'd lose 98.4% of the colour palette, since the GameGear palette is 64x the size of the Master System. However, this real-time patching of the palettes is what the ROM-hack GG-to-MS conversions do (albeit they do it in software). On the other hand, the ROM hacks also do a bunch of other stuff, so who knows if that'd be enough.

The Game Gear's colour palette is actually significantly larger than even the Genesis, highlighting the difficulty of the problem.

A consolized Game Gear is something I have been interested in having built for me as well.

My own idea on this was to have the multiple output formats as I have seen, RGB, S-Video, VGA, and Composite.

Also had the idea of having dual cartridge slots, with an electronic switch between the two, one of them being the Game Gear cartridge slot, and the other being a hardwired Master Gear Converter, essentially making this a GG/SMS Duo.

Having the two cartridge slots stacked, but progressive, with the SMS cart slot located on the bottom of the stack (larger cartridges), and the GG slot recessed back, making the SMS cart art still visible, above the SMS cart slot.

Along with a smooth crescent controller, similar to the Saturn controller, with a circle stick or circle pad, instead of the traditional directional pad.

If anyone could do this, I would be willing to pay a decent amount for it, I always wanted to play my copy of Coca Cola Kid on my television.
