That was quick. After testing my PC Engine, I rotated the monitor back to normal, and now I don't get a picture. If I start a console, I get a flash of an image, and then it dissipates. :(

PS. Yeah, the monitor is all ready busted. However, I am going to double down and get more pro CRT's  . I'll have a dedicated Tate monitor, and a normal monitor. I'm not going to let this discourage me.

that's some bad luck you got with the panasonic monitor..
I have noticed that my 1Chip-03 SNES has more contrast than my Model 2 Sega Saturn. The Saturn is a little dark.
does the xrgb feature a contrast setting? my xrgb-2 does, and that works wonders to compensate for consoles that output a somewhat dark image.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

I don't see a contrast setting. I do see controls for adjusting the RGB levels, and there is also a brightness control too.

Brightness on the XRGB should be a contrast (white level) setting. Micomsoft has been labeling this wrong for over a decade now. Their Brightness (decrease) function is usually called "Black" and the other XRGBs have a gamma setting in addition which is more of a brightness setting then a real gamma control.

Glad to know it is a contrast adjustment feature.

Fudoh, I saw your updated review on the Andora. I have one correction. The photos I took were without the SLG3000.

right, of course. 2 scanlines per source pixel - should have seen it!

I wrote earlier that I would write a review of the XRGB-1. I got it today, but it turned out to be dead. I unfortunately won't be able to write my impressions on the unit. :(

ouch, that's a shame. Did you get the XRGB-1 that was offered by another member here a little time ago ?

Is your XRGB-1 unit not powering on at all? I have one that we can use to troubleshoot voltage measurements or continuity. Let me know if you need any information on it.

It does power on. I used this power adapter. Edit: I shouldn't have said it's dead. It does power on. I was just super frustrated.

I used JP21 cables or used a Euro Scart to JP21 converter at all times. I am sure I used both C-sync and composite video for sync when testing the RGB input. I even tried composite with some of the consoles I had on hand. The issue is that when using a DB15 to VGA adapter, I cannot get an LCD or CRT to recognize that any signal is being input. I tried multiple dip switch settings, so I am sure that it was outputting 31khz at some time.

9V500mA gives a mere 4.5W max. power. That's awfully low for such an device. Have you compared that to the original specs ? Units like the XRGB-3 draw four times that power.

The original micomsoft power supply says this.

Input:
AC 100V
11VA 50-60Hz

Output:
DC 9V
500mA

Did I make mistake when buying a US power adapter?

Strange that it would use less than half the power of the XRGB-2 and 2+ (12V, 1A output). Does the original PSU have a Micomsoft logo on it? If not, does the XRGB list the input requirements on the bottom label or by the power plug jack?

I'm pretty sure it's official. There are no power figures printed on the unit itself, hoever the manual states that it needs 9V DC 500mA. The XRGB 1 is really tiny. It isn't that much bigger than a Framemeister.

Strange that the successor units use more than twice the power, but yeah, that's an official PSU.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've been messing around with my XRGB-1 and found this thread when looking for info on the power adapter.

I was looking into replacing the Japanese power adapter with a domestic one. The original power adapter was getting very hot whenver used, even if it was only for an hour or so.

As noted in this thread, the listed DC output on the Japanese adapter is DC 9V 500ma. I wanted to double-check the voltage and polarity with my multimeter to be safe. While the replacement 9v adapter I picked up output 9v as expected the original Japanese XRGB-1 adapter output 17v! I checked and rechecked always with the same result: 17v.

Could the adapter just be mislabeled as 9v? The adapter I have is definitely an original and matches the photo NWrain posted previously.

Thank you
