I dont have the decoder card for s-video on my bvm.
Before I blow again some money, is there a cheaper way for me to connect my pc-fx (yes I know....)?

Cheers

Stick with composite out instead? That would be free ;)
Is there any way to tap RGB from PC FX machines?

I might get a try in composite :)

Apparently there is no way to tap RGB signals from these machines.

Is there an s-video input decoder card even avaliable for BVMs? I don't think I've ever seen one? A lot PVMs have s-video input them natively on recent models I've seen...

All the cards for your tv should be listed in its manual. I've seen s-video card modules around.

Has anyone painted the housing of their PVM to be more home friendly? The wife is throwing side eye at it, even though it's not in our living room. :)

Sure, there are boards with s-video decoders, but they use BNC as well (so one plug for luma, one for chroma), do you don't exactly see that it's an s-video board unless you check the specs.

I believe on some sets there is a lock you can apply in the settings.

If anyone here has the time, can you give me your service menu settings for the Signal section? I don't need the white balance numbers, just the others.

I suspect there's a filter or something that is affecting the non RGB inputs like the S-video filter I accidentally turned on on my 20L2.

Edit: I confirmed that RGB is the only signal that is differently colored.
I will grab mine when I get home this eve.

Thanks.

I did some more messing about. It appears that the bias and gain color settings are linked to each input channel so the RGB and Component line share the same color settings. This means that others could have a similar problem on their sets, I'd think.

Does anyone notice a difference in their grey scales in the 240p suite running through RGB vs. component?

Einzelherz - How do you access the Service Menu on your monitor? I have the same model and couldn't find it. Went to the User and Service Manuals and couldn't find a Service Menu listed in there either.

He did. He linked to a specific page that tells you exactly how to open, operate, and close the service menu. Maybe show a little gratitude instead of insulting the people helping you.

I made no insults.

The key information that would have made all the difference is that its called Service Mode, not Service Menu as part of the standard menu system.

But this explains why I didn't see it last eve. My mistake.

While I was genuinely was trying to help you, I felt the page I linked was self explanatory. The manual is written better than I could explain, so I just left it at that. Sorry to have ruffled your feathers, I meant no disrespect.

Will check out a consumer Sony KV-27TS30 that's near me tomorrow.

It has Microblack Trinitron tubes, wich can be found in various older PVMs. So I'm hopeful it will have a nice picture.

Hopefully it only had light use and will be in good condition (tubes not worn out too much), seller said so but let me be the judge of that, hehe

I'll let you guys know how it fares

if I want to connect a pc (capable of 15 khz output) to a pvm with a scart port, a simple vga to scart cable is enough or I need something more specific?

I have this weird issue with my Toshiba 27A43 where the Pb is slightly behind the Pr and luma. I took a couple pictures of my (non-1chip, but doesn't really matter for this) SNES in S-Video (official cables) to demonstrate:

Look to the right of Mario's hand:

The image besides this is razor-sharp, and I was actually able to fix this for the component input by adjusting a couple settings in the service menu labeled "PB DL" and "PR DL", which I made educated guesses as to what they did. Anyone got advice?

It would be easier to use a VGA to BNC transcoder. I have one - the Extron 190F and it was like $20 on eBay. It'll convert the RGBHV from the PC to RGBHV/RGBs/RGsB over BNC that you can directly connect into the back of the monitor.

How old are these? Newer models will have a simpler chassis in case you need to make any repairs.

From all I've read in the forum, it seems like the only time to go for an older set is if you are worried about flatscreens, but you don't have to go too far back to find good examples of those.

thanks for the tip
I'm looking at the 2730qm that lacks the bnc input for rgb, if I go the transcoder way I'll need the 190f+this cable https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/mal ... rter-cable, is this correct?

https://gebrauchte-veranstaltungstechni ... .58.55.jpg
I just noticed the presence of a vga port marked with rgb, can I feed a 15 Khz vga singla to it directly? any difference between using this port or the scart one?

Sorry for all the noob questions

look again. It's a 9pin DIN input (not a 15pin like VGA) and it's marked "digital" (so it's for digital CGA cards). You have to use the Scart input for RGBs. I think the PVMs don't require a switching voltage, so you just a need a BNC to Scart adapter (pay attention to the signal direction!).

Instead of getting an Extron along with other adapters, the Arcadeforce UMSA would combine everything you need into a single device (PC VGA 15khz RGBHV to Scart RGBs).

My suggestion was incorrect. I didn't read the post correctly and assumed it was a newer PVM. And as always, Fudoh knows best :-)

made in 1990. so yeah, not the most recent for sure

I'm still gonna go check it out though, because I'm curious and love learning about CRTs

yep, I noticed the "digital" writing, was a little confused about that (even with my limited knowledge I knew vga it's analog :)) but missed that it wasn't a 15 pin connector

thank you alot for the umsa suggestion, also didn't know abou arcadeforge, they have a lot of interesting stuff!

A couple months ago, I was looking for something and found an SD card, and decided to put it in my PC just in case it had a photo of my family's last CRT before getting an LCD that I had to completely rely on memory to guess the model of.
Spoiler
Turns out I was fucking around with the camera it was in on April 4th 2008 and took a picture of it:

Image
Turns out that my guess that it was a Toshiba 3xA43 was right.
Sorry that it's titled, but you can turn it right-side-up if you print it out on a piece of paper and find it. Also found a couple videos of 2d sidescrollers being played on it and I couldn't find any convergence or geometry issues in them.

This thing was in the fucking trash folder; I'm lucky as fuck

Can anyone with a bvm d24 or d32 confirm if they see the same thing when using 480p or higher progressive resolutions.
I have a particularly noticeable scanline about 1 inch from the top and another just under halfway down. I tried to capture it but it's very hard with a camera phoneImage

Is this just my unit or all of them?

You sure it's not the aperture grille support wires?

Can you only see it on lighter screens?

I am not sure what those supper wires are but I can see it on any. I just used the test suite in 480p to give a solid color to show it.

They look like extra promintnent scanlines but they do not move when making alignment changes up and down. They are at fixed points on the screen.

It's not visible in 240p mode, they must sit neatly within scanlines there

Edit
Actually, it is visible on 240 at well

Definitely looks like the support wires. They're very noticeable on a solid color on my Trinitron PC monitor running at 640x480.
