Will AV Famicom Multi AV Parts fit US Top Loader?
I'm building an RGB top loader NES and would like to use original plastics if possible. I know there is a 3D printed kit available.
Can I use a Japanese AV Famicom (HVC-101) for parts and salvage everything I need in order to have the Nintendo AV Multi out connector on the back of a US NES Top Loader (NES-101)?
Will the rear plastic panel fit perfectly?

It should fit perfectly, the super rare top loaders that had AV output from the factory used the exact same rear panel as the AV Famicom.

I assume the bottom half moldings are identical.

Please don't kill a Famicom AV for it's rear panel that you will only see 3-5 times in your life. Just get the 3D printed one.
Also.. it will NOT fit the top loader (without hole drilling or pin bending) The Famicom AV multiAV port has the pins pointing down into the PCB. In the case of the USA Top Loader, it will hit the ground plane. The holes for the port are missing!

I could care less about seeing a mismatched piece of 3D printed plastic on the back of my console. The issue is that said 3D printed piece of plastic costs $38 USD.
A little pin bending and/or drilling won't hurt anyone.
I can sell you a custom modded AV Famicom with RF out?
Relax, I'm sure I can sell off the AV Famicom with the US toploader back panel to someone who wants to convert it to have composite out.

An AV Famicom on eBay costs $95 USD shipped, so you're not saving any money.

yeah. nothing like spending more $$$ on a piece of plastic than the NESRGB PCB (a portable computer!)Guspaz wrote:An AV Famicom on eBay costs $95 USD shipped, so you're not saving any money.

Ah, I thought you already had a busted AV Famicom or something. Spending nearly $100 on a perfectly good AV Famicom is utterly ridiculous considering the 3D-printed panel is only about $35 or so. And also by swapping out the panel on the AV Famicom you'll completely ruin its resale value...

The Av Famicom is just as expensive as the toploader.

Yes, but this mod would require both a toploader and an AV famicom, which is much more expensive than a toploader and the 3D printed panel.

my point was, I wouldnt tear an av famicom up just for the multi out.
there are plenty of non working, Not gonna work, yellow SNES out there to use. just check ebay to see what i mean. Not to mention the 3d printed panel.
And the Gamecube is cheap too.
Here looks like a bunch of cheap multiouts.

If you can get him to use Fedex smartpost it will cost even less.

Best multiout port for top loader is the GameCube. Lots of dead GC out there for less than $20!! They're easy to install because of 2 reasons:
1) You cut a square hole. None of that etched crap the SNES/N64 has
2) It has a metal shield!! Scrape away some of the ground plane and solder it down! Will hold forever (That's how NEC did it with the RF port on the TG16!)

Or you could grab a 3D-printed panel and not have to worry about trimming plastic or perform any extra soldering...leonk wrote:Best multiout port for top loader is the GameCube. Lots of dead GC out there for less than $20!! They're easy to install because of 2 reasons:

I used the 3D printed panel for my NES, but after cross border shipping and exchange rate, the 3D panel is 3/4 cost of NESRGB pcb. Not worth it for most people when for less than 1/3 the price they can get it out of a dead GC.

If you are going to sack two $90 consoles for their AV ports might as well go the full nine yards and buy a playchoice 10 PCB to sack as well instead of using the NESRGB.
