A little older, but you might want to check out Blade Runner for DOS. You can download it.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

And there's Kojima's Blade Runner-inspired game, Snatcher. It has talking, but there are also shooting portions.

Policenauts is like that too, but it's much slower and less fun.

You won't really solve anything in Max Payne, but the story have a Detective Noir feel. It is actually third person shooter, but its a good game.

If you just wanna go along for the ride, try Deadly Premonition or Heavy Rain.

They're both incredibly dumb in their own ways but DP is charming in the process.

There's also D4 but I don't know if that'll ever be finished.

Anyone here played Firewatch? I liked the premise, but I'm still without a device required to play it on.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers was one of my favourite point-n-click detective games BITD.

Her Story, is a newer title that is a police investigation game that involves watching a series of interrogation live action footage. I haven't played it yet, but it looks interesting and "outside-of-the-box".

Didn't play that one, actually. I generally enjoyed my time with Murdered: Soul Suspect, even though it taunts me with a broken final collectible, and it seemed to revel in rolling out the most hackneyed cliches one after another and generally failing to really capitalize on its potential like a AAA title might have. I've got to try out that DS title that is said to be roughly the same but better.

And of course...MYSTERY CASE FILES. Well, it's not really about solving crimes. But they are somewhere between damn weird, and well produced for what they are - HOGs, the casual-afflicted spawn of the elder adventures and an Eye Spy book. Out of the hell-of-a-lot of Hidden Object Games, there's still a hell of a lot of them which have something to do with stolen venuses or purloined lives or whatever, but the MCF series is either good or at least the closest things in the genre to quality. Quite funny considering the very offbeat and dated '90s feel of the early entries in the series. Recent entries in this series have pretty high production values and some interesting characters, actually, but the main HOG gameplay remains intractable as always, either a crutch or a hindrance depending on how you look at it (but I suppose the same could be said of the average FPS or TPS).

Since we're definitely skidding through the slums without brakes now, I ought to mention that there's a Google Chrome web browser app called "Murder Files" which seems like it could be fun. I've not spent a lot of time with it (and quite a while ago) but it seems safe + cute + British.

On that note, anybody spent time with the various Sherlock Holmes things? There's so damn many of them. I haven't played any but they have an interesting reputation (Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Frogwares, Creepy Watson.)

Tex Murphy games and blade runner I have to second for sure. I still can't believe that isn't the movie score in the blade runner game. Frank Klepacki recreated the entire soundtrack. Tex Murphy is pretty cheesy film noir sci-fi stuff, but the humor works perfectly.

The fan translation of Famicom Detective Club 2 was pretty good - had me up to the early hours of the morning trying to finish.

they aren't out yet, but I'm sure thimbleweed park and virginia will both fit the bill. both are heavily inspired by twin peaks and x-files.
