EXZEAL is NOW LIVE and with a 20% launch discount!

And to celebrate we are hosting another scoring competition (we are getting a bit predictable, huh?)

Thank you, guys and gals at Degica, for all the shooting love that would have never made it over here otherwise! (And also for bringing games that run on my laptop. >.>)

BTW, there's another hidden ship in this game, too. Select ship type three, and hit the shot button to start playing right as the timer's on 13.

Dinjoralo : That hidden ship is in Trizeal or Exzeal? Well, I guess it would be Exzeal, as the blog post on Degica's website about it mentioned a secret ship.

Speaking of Exzeal, 2P-side scores don't seem to be uploaded on the online rankings, even though they are locally stored. Does it happen to anybody else? The online leaderboards don't feature any 2P-side players so that would go towards confirming it, in any case.

Holy shit, I did it! It's 9:02 P.M. EST (6:02 P.M. Pacific) and I'm in third with a last minute run submission at 8:55 for the Trizeal Remix contest!

Well done, mate! I had been hoping to place a little higher, but didn't get a chance to make use of the generous extension.

Thanks.

Now if we could just get someone from Degica to contact the winners... hint hint NickPalmerDegica

Cool. And just so you know, I did purchase Exzeal before the discount ended, since my original score got blasted out of the water and I couldn't get my score any higher at first. So your comment about figuring out something else for my prize, applies.

More often than not, the button simply won't register at the beginning of stages, or after respawning, or after a bomb is released. It seems you have to press Transform at least once in order for the auto-fire to function again.
So I'm not the only one this is happening to? That's good, since I was beginning to think my controller was being weird.
Yeah I'm getting this too on respawns. I'm not sure if it's because I don't let go of autofire between dying and respawning or what, but it will just stop working for a good 3 or 4 seconds unless I hit the transform button.

Otherwise it plays flawlessly and I'm having a blast. Though I had totally forgotten how much those colorless bullets irk me :x

The scoring potentials vary pretty wildly between the Exzeal ships, eh? My highest score so far is from a quick fuck-around with the XIIStag ship, ending unceremoniously at the st2 boss. :p

3e seems to be a monster in this regard, too. Seeing huge rewards early on for adopting an aggressive, point-blank style...

The XII Stag ship has the highest scoring potential, it can get X12 on virtually everything.

Plus it can do the scoring trick before the s1 boss appears to get x12 on all the small enemies.

One thing I'm enjoying is the amount of nifty ideas it has. Each stage seems to have something new to play around with, like the jet-powered asteroids in stage 5 that can be shot and sent hurtling into other rocks for point bonuses. Lots of little unconventional interactions that make the game more fun. It has a lot of charm and heart.

Need to get my stick repaired for EXZEAL. Rapid Side Attack doesn't apply to UNIT-1 or -2, wiggling the D-pad on a pad to charge faster gets tiresome, and I'm godsawful on a keyboard.

The Coop : Have you sent a friend request to the Degica staff member who handles the prizes? I already had James in my friend list from the XIIZeal/DeltaZeal contest so he provided me with the Exzeal contest prize, but in your case, I think Adam was the one who published the Trizeal contest results, wasn't he?

Klatrymadon : I agree with your analysis. Exzeal feels like Fujino experimented with lots of different ideas and put them all in a single game. Compared to his previous shmups, the enemy wave-design feels less straghtforward and is more about finding solutions to puzzle-like challenges. It was kinda unsettling at first, but I've grown to like it.

I have no clue who handles the prizes, and I've seen nothing about the contest outcome on Steam, Twitter or Facebook. As far as I can tell, there's been no winners announcement since the contest ended back on July 22.

I found this announcement on the Trizeal steam page :
http://steamcommunity.com/games/465070/ ... 2145529533
Oddly enough, it didn't seem to have taken your score into account and is only in Japanese, and the English version of the results doesn't seem to be there yet, while the Exzeal contest and all the previous contests had an English results page. :?

The leaderboards don't display things in the viewer's timezone, they're displayed using whatever timezone the score was submitted in. I suspect whoever made that image doesn't realize that.

I consider it a bug, really. The leaderboard times should either display in your timezone, or to a normalized (UTC) timezone for everyone. I also have a suspicion they just blindly use the client time, but I haven't done any testing.

Based on his posts here TheCoop is one of the winners of that contest.

Yeah, I remember seeing scores from a few hours in the future when competing in the XIIZeal contest. It was sorta funny beating a score made by a time-traveller.
I also assumed that TheCoop is one of the winners, hence my surprise at the announcement. Hopefully it will be sorted out with Degica.

I am one of the winners, as that 20:55 time stamp is 8:55 P.M. EDT (5:55 P.M. PDT) on July 22. Five minutes before the deadline.

What the hell, Degica? :?

Well i'll get personal with Nick Palmer here.

Look dude, I think you need to kindly ask your folks at Degica look into this problem (chances are, all shooting love titles are AFFECTED by this since they are similiar in menu/leaderboard code) if you don't want this to cause further trouble, especially in light of hosting your own competitions.

Because i'm concerned it may affect future Degica shmup titles if it's not fixed and lead to the same exact problem with hosting competitions for those. My suggestion? Use a standard timezone like UTC for the replays, by converting end user's existing timezone right when the replay gets saved before uploading it.

Yep, just reading through.

I'll make sure people know the situation with the leaderboards. We'll make sure that anyone who should have won a prize gets one.

I work with distributed systems, all our systems are synced to UTC regardless of where they are in the world, makes life a lot easier.

Spending more time with Trizeal than I thought I'd be able to. I have the first five stages pretty well memorised, and have the finish line in sight! Anyone else aiming for a 1CC at the moment?

Parts I thought would be really hairy are actually alright - learning you can make the st4 asteroid field fairly trivial if you proactively curl under the ships that appear at the bottom of the screen and take 'em out...

I 1CCed it a few days ago with the 2P-side ship. :)
As long as you keep your total power-up count under 10 or 11 (I can't remember the exact number), it is quite manageable I would say. The game becomes quite angry otherwise. My set-up is as follows : 3 laser, 1 homing and 5 spread with the spread shot transformation activated, which gives me nice coverage and damage output.
Keep at it, you are close to clearing it! :D

For those who played Exzeal in the arcades or with the 360 port : is it normal that Stage 4 strips you of your lives and defeat there means instant Game Over?
