Exaggeration wasn't the Dragon's Crown's artwork's problem (see the elf character).

Another package from eBay arrived; took everything out of the bubble wrap before taking the pic:

The game even came with the manual and all of its other inserts in perfect condition

It was time to close a couple of gaps in the collection.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Beautiful stuff, beautifully shot too! Some of my favourite pre-32bit arcade ports there.

Got Parodius and Crude Buster for cheap as well, which made it extra sweet. I've owned the former in it's Saturn Deluxe Pack incarnation for ages, but I really do believe the SFC version of the game is ultimately the best.
The latter (btw, "Lifeline of New York" is probably one of the best brawler tunes ever!) might be one of few cases where I actually prefer the PAL cover art with its buffet of manliness:

But still... what's the point in getting PAL games!?
Super Contra on the other hand made me bleed. But dammit, I just got tired of waiting for a deal to come along.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
That truly is a killer PAL cover - they even incorporate a serviceable NY skyline for extra DECOness!
Yeah, I noticed Super Contra starting to sneak up a couple years ago. I was more interested in the (already pricey by then) original, but decided to stretch a bit to nab Super too. Knew I'd only end up pining for it later on.

True story: Last time I was in Japan (in 2013) I was rummaging through loose carts and grubby controllers in Kyoto's A-too (in Teramachi; I believe it has since closed down), disappointed at the uninspiring selection, when lo and behold, there appeared a boxed Contra with a ¥1800 price tag on it.BIL wrote:Yeah, I noticed Super Contra starting to sneak up a couple years ago. Holy cow, yeah, that would definitely help even things out! Hell of a find, extra nice on the trading card!CIT wrote:True story: Last time I was in Japan (in 2013) I was rummaging through loose carts and grubby controllers in Kyoto's A-too (in Teramachi; I believe it has since closed down), disappointed at the uninspiring selection, when lo and behold, there appeared a boxed Contra with a ¥1800 price tag on it.Was definitely one of my best deals ever. So yeah, win some loose some I guess.

Just Snail Maze? You must have one of the older models, which makes its condition all the more impressive.

The rest of the things I bought on eBay on July 1st arrived today:

Don't have Dr. Mario yet, but the manual was sold together with the Mario 2 one for $7.

Sweet. I don't have the SNES version of Paroidus Da!! yet, though I do have the Saturn port with Gokujo Parodius. I just picked up the US version of Two Crude Dudes recently and I have the US Super C.CIT wrote:It was time to close a couple of gaps in the collection.
My main SMS doesn't have any built in games, but it has a cool background with an FM remix of the Space Harrier theme when you turn it on.
Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Bad ass.
That was my first console. Needs an S video mod and it's in storage, but I will never part with it.
Looking for game suggestions?
Oh - Enjoy it!

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
picked up a couple games that are somewhat hard to find this weekend. Sorry for the horrible picture, apparently I was more tired than I thought at 5 am this morning
Castle of Illusion - Sega Master System
Shadow of the Ninja - NES
Looking forward to playing Shadow of the Ninja, from what I've read it is the spiritual predecessor to the Gameboy Ninja Gaiden game. I guess the company that made it was bought out by Tecmo while in development of a Gameboy port.
Castle of Illusion also looks fun, though I wish it was boxed since 95% of my SMS is....oh well. Still searching for Phantasy Star and the Wonder Boy games, but this is a welcome addition to my humble SMS collection

GB Ninja Gaiden is basically a miniature Shadow of the Ninja sequel, with NG's subweapon system bolted on. Natsume developed both, you should also try their Dragon Fighter and Shatterhand if you like Shadow.Shoryukev wrote:Looking forward to playing Shadow of the Ninja, from what I've read it is the spiritual predecessor to the Gameboy Ninja Gaiden game. They had a helluva win streak on SNES/SFC too, but never really went back to that Castlevania/NG style of sidescroller (Ghost Chaser... edit: Ghost Sweeper Mikami is the closest). The Ninja Warriors, Pocky & Rocky and Wild Guns are all must-plays.

First foray into PC Engine! I don't actually have a PC Engine yet, but the games were pretty cheap. Gonna need to get at least Salamander very soon... and an actual console.
EDIT: also, to the guy who bought the Master System: you *need* to get Bubble Bobble for it, it's by far the best version. Instead of just the final boss there's one boss every like 25 levels, and they're the most fun part of the game.
Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
On a Sega Super Scaler kick at the moment:

Also picked up (but not pictured) Out Run, Turbo Out Run & Super Hang On on MD and a Sony Space Harrier superplay LD too.

Those last three are puzzles, but what are the first two? Soundtracks? Superplays? Obscure ports? In any case, great find.
Were these bought online? Where I live I don't see much in the way of game merchandise outside the usual Mario/Sonic/Pokemon stuff, so I'd welcome any store recommendations.

I shall give BB on the MS a try - thanks.

The Out Run discs are superplays on laserdisc. One is a 1987 pressing and one is a 1988 pressing - both are pretty rare, especially the '88 pressing.WelshMegalodon wrote:Those last three are puzzles, but what are the first two? Soundtracks? Superplays? Obscure ports? In any case, great find.

The three boxes are jigsaws! There was a collection of jigsaws all based on the Sega Super Scaler series of coin-ops. Really need to find the Out Run one next

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
for the future setups.. doubled the boxes i had with darkfuture & adeptus titanicus. some feeling too with cthulhutech, carwars & other stuffs
