RGB cables and Component cables question
Are they the same thing? When I looked for RGB cables on Amazon, I found some that were labeled component-so would they work with component video on an HDTV?

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
Sometimes sellers mistakenly call component cables RGB cables because the connectors are green, blue, and red.

Yeah, they do look similar, so that's probably what happened. Thanks!BazookaBen wrote:Sometimes sellers mistakenly call component cables RGB cables because the connectors are green, blue, and red.

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
RGB uses SCART, Component uses RCA. There are exception for both cases, like D-Terminal connectors in Japan or BNC. But in general they do not look similar.

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
You can use component cables as RGB cables if they come with a composite connector as well.

Yes and no: depends on what device you're outputting from. Example: PS1/PS2 has the capability of outputting RGBs through component cables for 240p/480i.

Oh yeah, whoops, you're right. You definitely can't do that with an OG Xbox or a Gamecube right out of the gate. Would probably need modding.beatsgo wrote:Yes and no: depends on what device you're outputting from. Example: PS1/PS2 has the capability of outputting RGBs through component cables for 240p/480i.

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
A lot of people mistakenly call component cables RGB. Its annoying when you are looking for Rgb cables.
When i search, i usually look for Rgb SCART cables and that brings up the right stuff.

Getting back to the OP
Which device are you trying to get RGBs?

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
Well basically what I'm trying to do is figure out the best way to play PAL games on an NTSC display. A lot of people seem to be into cheap SCART to HDMI converters, but they can go bad. Then there are people who suggest the XRGB Mini, which cost well over $300.00. For that amount of money, I could buy a Sony PVM or BVM (and, AFIK, those will all take a PAL video signal just fine), and still have plenty of money to spare.
You can buy multisystem CRT TVs on this site: http://www.samstores.com/search-multisy ... s-388.html but none of them come with RGB or SCART inputs.

Did you move to the US from Europe? Why do you have PAL games?dave4shmups wrote:Well basically what I'm trying to do is figure out the best way to play PAL games on an NTSC display. 50Hz support can't be very high on US TVs, can it?

No, I'm from the US and live here. I'm thinking about getting something like a PAL PS2, GX4000, or CD32.

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
Aren't there very few games that are exclusive to PAL?

. On the PS2, I don't know, but there are a lot of PAL games on the Amiga CD32, and all of the games on the Amstrad Gx4000 are PAL.Guspaz wrote:Aren't there very few games that are exclusive to PAL?

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
The PS2 version of Wipeout Pulse is PAL only, but thankfully it has a 60hz mode.
Actually, you can run it at 85hz if you have GS Mode Selector. Since the framerate jumps around like crazy you might as well go with the highest refresh rate.

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
A converter would be best to get PAL compatibility.
That way you can use newer technology. I bought 2 PVM's and both had geometry issues and looked like an elephant in the room.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Stop talking about Wipeout Pulse without mentioning it's memory card corruption issues. It's been known to corrupt its own saves and some people have had their entire memory card corrupted.BazookaBen wrote:The PS2 version of Wipeout Pulse is PAL only, but thankfully it has a 60hz mode.

Better just to play the game on a PSTV which is a superior version of the game in every way.

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
Those games all play on an NTSC system with no issues though. I've compared them to NTSC gamegear versions of the same game (sonic 1, 2, star wars) and they were all playing the same speed and the games have zero issues.mvsfan wrote:dont forget the master system. Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
The GX4000 sucks, it's only worth it as a collector's piece these days. If you wanna be serious about playing Amstrad games it's better to get something like one of the "Plus" models which have all the perks of the GX4000 but are still compatible with most CPC games. And as we've told you before in an older thread, the CD32 is not ideal for Amiga games and you're much better off with an Amiga 1200 or even a 600.dave4shmups wrote:No, I'm from the US and live here. Don't know enough about PAL PS2 stuff to comment on that but I would think a chipped PS2 would be enough. The PAL PS2 doesn't even have that many exclusives going for it (unless you really wanna play Animal Soccer World or one of those crappy Phoenix Games titles).

Re: RGB cables and Component cables question
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I always just put the save on a Memory card that I didn't mind having corrupted. Even so, I guess I've been lucky as I've never had an issue.ZellSF wrote:Stop talking about Wipeout Pulse without mentioning it's memory card corruption issues. But yeah, I should have a "buyer beware" disclaimer anytime I talk about it.
