Re: FALCOM Thread
Trails 1 was on of the best recent JRPGs I've enjoyed. So 2 is already out and 3 is on it's way?! Never thought I'd see the day. Part 1 kinda left of this crazy cliffhanger to what I thought was a great story, and hooked me in real good to want to play the rest. But let me guess, all digital copies, right? Well, at least better then nothing.

Re: FALCOM Thread
Whodathunk, a PC version of Tokyo Xanadu. And also the fact that Aksys is doing it instead of XSEED. Falcom may have figured XSEED had plenty on their plate at this time (Xanadu Next, the 3rd, Cold Steel 2, and likely Ys
and decided this so TX could come sooner.
Double-dip time. Hopefully the eX+ content will at least show up as DLC for the PC/Vita, or Aksys gets a good response and decides to bring out the PS4 version eventually.
Great news, even if it's the old version. Having it on PC is awesome, especially when graphics can be cranked to 4K.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: FALCOM Thread
I can't be excited for the 8th Ys after playing 7 for PSP. Which I lost interest in playing at one point. Also didn't like how XSEED totally botched the dialog for that one character you acquire in the desert of 7 (he's like a prince or king or something). Weird dialog he had made me hate him. The one for Vita I bought the Japanese LE, despite knowing it used the gameplay engine of 7 which I'm not crazy for at all. It's also the only Vita game I bought too... and still no Vita.
My fave Ys game is still 1 & 2 Chronicles for PSP. The others I've played and enjoyed very much are Oath of Felghana (PSP) and 6 (PS2). To me playing these games are what turned me into a fan of this series. Have yet to play part 3-5 for both PCE CD & SNES versions.

I'd wait for the final judgement until VIII is actually out. You can jump again, so I'm hoping it will be somewhat of a move away from the MMO-style slash-a-thons of late and more of a return to VI/Felghana/Origins-era action goodness.
Regarding the old entries in the series, play III on Mega Drive, it's the best console version. And you certainly won't want to miss IV on PCE, it's the perfect sequel to I&II!

Nice, I always had my eyes on III for the GEN/MD. The colors look good and it scrolls so smooth, and the music sounds nice too. You're really getting me pumped up about it now, lol.CIT wrote: Regarding the old entries in the series, play III on Mega Drive, it's the best console version. Also : isn't IV on the PCE in japanese only?

Yes, but there's a english fan translation and dub for it.FinalBaton wrote:isn't IV on the PCE in japanese only?

Re: FALCOM Thread
Worlds apart! It's a completely different game, and much better. While the SFC's Mask of the Sun was a rather rushed affair Dawn of Ys takes full advantage of the CD-Rom medium in the same way Book I&II did, adds a lot of fan-service directly connecting it with I&II, has awesome, challenging boss battles, and much better controls than SFC (which retained the clunky 4-way movement). Basically it's the sequel everybody wanted the ho-hum Ys III to be. It's probably my favorite in the series. Can't recommend it enough.Blinge wrote:Oooh. Ah! I thought you meant IV, hahahahaha!
III is not that different from version to version, but the MD one has the overall cleanest graphics, smoothest scrolling, and best sound. But the actual plot/content is the same.

Re: FALCOM Thread
PC Engine version of 3 DEFINITELY has the best sound.... that soundtrack is one of the best ever.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The Oath arrangement of The Strongest Foe lacks that catchy percussion inbetween the guitar segments, the song just sounds so empty without it.

Re: FALCOM Thread
I played the 1 & 2 Chronicles for the PC and I'm little interested, at least right now, on the later titles. Really liked everything in the game, but I know how diferent the others are, without the bumping system and all;Sinful wrote:My fave Ys game is still 1 & 2 Chronicles for PSP. It does, but I prefer the melodic interludes the Genesis version puts there over the PCE's two-note banging.Durandal wrote:The Oath arrangement of The Strongest Foe lacks that catchy percussion inbetween the guitar segments, the song just sounds so empty without it.

Looks like there's a port of Gurumin coming to 3DS eshop. It will be on display at PAX west. A trailer was announced with a teaser.
Re: FALCOM Thread
Y's VIII OST has some cool tracks. Too bad the intro theme isn't as epic sounding as VII.

Re: FALCOM Thread
I'm hoping there's a release date for Xanadu Next soon. GameFAQs says TBA 2016, so maybe by the end of the year.
While I've imported the Japanese version a while back and played it with the Figli di Gaucci translation patch, I'm eager to see what improvements XSEED makes (support for 16:9/16:10 and 4K sounds good).
Hopefully Tokyo Xanadu eX+'s extra content will show up as DLC for the PC & Vita versions.

Re: FALCOM Thread
I hope they both get localized into English. I'm currently enjoying Trails of Cold Steel on PS3, and it is is my first Falcom game. (Well, I guess I played Ys III: Wanderers from Ys on the SNES 24 years ago, but I barely remember it. Oh, and maybe Legacy of the Wizard counts...)
Anyway, I look forward to trying more of their games.
