Be careful when buying Solaris Japans RGB cables

Post by aamike68 »

I am in the process of working out this issue with them, but I bought a cable from them for my RGB modded SNES mini with C-sync enabled hooked up to XRGB mini. Got the cable today and it looks great, solid construction but only audio is passing through but no video. Tried a lot of different things in settings but eventually hooked up to 2 other older SNES systems and worked fine. This got me a little heated because nothing on Solaris Japans website stated that it wouldn't work with the SNES mini. I have sent them an email and am hoping for a solution because I dont want to return it. Also im a little pissed because in the process of troubleshooting I disassembled my snes mini and my C-sync wire came loose from its solder lol! so Im down for the day on my main system until I can re-solder at work tomorrow.

Also for anyone wondering, I had a cable from retro console accessories on ebay for a while but the multi port plug was seperating from the cable if that makes sense. So there were exposed wires and I was concerned that something would eventually pull out and cause problems, plus I started experiencing some pretty noticeable ghosting so I decided to order the Solaris cable and keep the other as a back up.

Ill keep you guys posted.

That sounds more like an issue with the RGB mod in your SNES Mini.

If your csync wire clearly had a cold solder joint, are you sure it wasn't the wire's fault and not the cable? Other than that it may be how your mod is wired. What's connected to what?

The Micomsoft cables from Solaris use Luma as sync. A SNES mini doesn't have that on the output stock. So unless you mod it, it doesn't have Luma on the output. I guess you could hack job it and solder the C Sync wire to the Luma pin.

It says "Luminance as sync: Removes any chance of interference usually caused by composite video as sync while retaining the highest possible compatibility with all displays and processors."

*sigh* well thats a bummer. I had no clue the mini was THAT much different than the regular snes revisions and didnt include luma as a sync option. Just caused myself a lot of headache i guess, I think I'll just re-solder my C-sync wire and use the old cable to save myself more trouble. thanks for the replies guys. ugh, waste of money because of ignorance...

You could also mod your SNES mini for S-video, it's just as easy as modding it for RGB.
