Not a television or movie trope but I once worked with a guy from Taiwan.
One of the nicest people I've ever met. Gave up his chair the first day I entered the office.
Anyway we worked with a claims processing system and it had a lot of numbers as keys for data types.
He would always sort of point out "bad" numbers. I thought he meant something was wrong but later he explained that some numbers were considered bad in Chinese.
He got really excited one day when there were several of some digit in a row in a number.
When he saw a "bad" number he might kind of make a noise under his breath.
Being a clueless Montana boy it was kind of amusing to see something from a different culture.
He is a devout Christian, I doubt he took the number thing seriously.
Maybe it just cultural anecdotes when it came to numbers and luck.
Anyway a very polite person. Lot of respect for em.
