Quesion: Are the "community records" listed in here intended to be from forum members only or are those just any scores that exist out there on youtube or whatever? There are a lot of discrepancies between the top scores listed in the hi-score threads and the ones listed in the hall of records.

One example would be Prehistoric Isle 2, the top score listed in the hall of records is nowhere to be found in the forum. I believe Gemant should have records for both ships, not just type B. Also not sure where the community record for Prehistoric Isle in 1930 is coming from either.

All record from italian players came from the "ARCA project". A document with specific rules for italian players, where I listed also top japanese score. Almost all hi-score from Arca are played and record on wolfmame, and I have the complete pack (wolf + replay + photo + comment + roms etc.):

Prehistoric Isle 1 for exemple is a hi-score from Rax. Rax is an italian player and is not in shmups.com community. His replay are free in marp site.

I guess my question is still are the "community records" those done on the shmups.system11 forum or just any random record that exists out there? Are they not simply the best scores in each of the high score threads? If not, that just seems really inconsistent.

It's pretty much arbitrary.
Community record are just there to give people an idea of how high people outside of the Japanese arcade scene can score, and to incentivize competition.

You should keep working on ARCA. I had a lot of fun reading about Street Fighter 2 and other games :P (with Google translate from Italian)

Counting Italian players who aren't part of the community but not Korean/Chinese players who aren't part of the community is stupid.

I agree, the scores in the hall of records should reflect the top scores in the individual scoreboards on this site only, and only those done by actual forum members.

I also agree that "Community" should only consider scores posted to this specific forum, otherwise what's the point of the term?

thanks to plasmo for calling out my garbo submission, though i always did want to try that game again

I agree. We went from the arbitrary "Western" records to the nebulous "Community" records and I'd rather we keep it more clear-cut.

Any objections?

news from japan.

Some scores recently added to the database of JHA are deleted. Pipe Dream and Powered Gear. Reason: abuse of controller manipulation is no more accepted.

Not. Autofire circuit are always accepted. The problem is (in my opinion) about the macro system or other type of manipulation on buttons.

There's a technique in Power Gear that, using an autofire circuit, allows the player to put his character in an invincible state. For this reason, the only modification accepted on Power Gear are Macro Buttons (that let you press more than one button at the same time). The score posted didn't use that technique but it's still invalid as it violates the rules.

Doesn't say anything about Pipe Dream

Not a WR, but some guy no missed Mushi Ultra. He might post a video of it next month or so.

They have been receiving communications from the players and the store owners that some scores were not obtained with default factory settings and that this is the case for older scores posted in Arcadia too.
After looking into it they determined that the last Pipe Dream Course A hi score wasn't valid and removed it.

Why isn't BGR-44/Chibarei's Donpachi counterstop listed? I get there's some controversy surrounding the run with some thinking it's TAS because it was done in MAME, but then there's no questions asked about accepting scores from other players (sikraiken, luy) with just as much controversy surrounding their scores.

BGR is cheater 500%. Donpachi is played with save state. So his videos are god Tas, good to learn strategy, but not real scores. The same for R-Type Leo.

Feels good seeing new high scores every month again.

I'm looking forward to the old Gamest/Arcadia archives too. I like seeing all of the records that guys like ISO, Yusemi, and TAC used to hold. (ISO in particular is just unreal.)
