^_^ for you ^_^
Haha, I didn't even realize that was a link. OK, so Rez doesn't even involve funky music. C'mon folks, its duck hunt with wire frame graphics.

OK, OK, I'll concede. Go ahead and include a section on REZ but make sure and include a video covering this.

After reading through some of the arguements for and against including the rail shooters, I have decided to exclude them from the video. I think some of the decision came down to the fact that I would basically be berating Rainbow Cotton for 4-5 minutes and Rez really doesn't capture well (unless you're using 640x480... but at 320x240 the compression smears so much of the image).

Thing is, I would eventually like to do something more akin to Retro Core... a general review show with a variety of consoles and genres represented. I'd also like to bring 2 of my friends on board to break up my monotony (Ashura and Colt_Steele, you're being sequestered). ;) Perhaps aim for a show length somewhere between 45 and 60 minutes and released once every 3 months or so.

What do you guys think?

Most of us shmuppers wouldn't be here if it weren't for the very concept of Retro.

I'd go so far as to revisit a Chuck E. Cheese in the respect for the fact that Pizza Time was once owned by Atari.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

A video game program that came out fairly regularly would be awesome!

Looks like I'll have to put production of the video on hold:

Taken from DCS:

Milestone denies Sega Japan's statement on future Dreamcast games
(Exclusive DCS news)

Since a couple of days a disscussion in our forums burns about Sega Japans statement about Under Defeat, which will be the last Dreamcast game, according to their product page on Sega.co.jp.

As you can see they have included the line "ドリームキャストの最後を飾るのは、このソフトだ!" which means something like "This will become the last Dreamcast game!".

We contacted Milestone Inc., the creators of some of the latest Dreamcast games, Chaos Field in 2004 and Radilgy in February 2006, and asked them about their point of view.

Their official statement was that they don't think that Under Defeat will be the last Dreamcast game and already got in contact with Sega Japan to secure that Dreamcast games and GD-ROMs can still be produced in future.

Again, the fate of the Dreamcast's future ended in a positive way and refuses to die once more. Eight years and running.

Well this might not have to be the case after all.

The DCS (Dreamcast-Scene) team (the ones credited with the succesful Border Down to DC lobby) did some asking around and when Milestone was contacted they got an official response.
Their official statement was that they don't think that Under Defeat will be the last Dreamcast game and they already contacted Sega of Japan to secure that Dreamcast games and GD-ROMs can still be produced in future.
Though it's not a Sega announcement it does offer hope since they think there will be more DC games after UD. More importantly though is that they are actively aking Sega to secure the possibility to there can still be official DC games on GD-roms in the future.

Whether anything will ever come from this we'll see (or not) in the future, but it gives some hope at least.
Triggerheart Exelica?????? Please!!! :D

@ Kiken: still no reason to not make the special as your Neo-Geo one won't be complete either when Last Hope comes out. Maybe you can make supplements to the specials afterwards. ;)

Technically, it is. Last Hope is not an official product (by all definitions, it's a homebrew title). The NG Shooting Special covered official release games. In the same way, that's what I plan to do with my DC special (hence the lack of Drill on the list)... it will only cover officially released software.

Whoops! You're right. The fact that the game would come on cart somehow made me regard it as official, but it is not indeed. The game's slated for DC and 1 or 2 other platforms too btw.

But if there's indeed some truth behind Milestone's words, UD might not be the final DC shmup after all. Maybe Triggerheart Exelica could come to DC after all. :? :)

It's much speculating though and you'd have to decide on making it once as you couldn't wait forever for another "possible" (but FAR from sure) DC game!

Can't wait for the special, but I "demand" a supplement if another official one ever comes out. ;)

That was made by Starfish and its called Kuru Kuru Chameleon, Grev's game Idol Starseeker Remix already has a DC port.

That's a stellar idea given the quality of the Neo vid. I've always supported Retro Core and its more relaxed approach to presentation, but another enthusiastic 'retro' show with a bit more structure (in terms of both the writing and editing) would be fantastic.

Most progress concerning the shooting special is still in the planning phase and will continue to be so until we have a confirmation on what Trigger Hearts Execila will be ported to. Again, I'd prefer that the video be as comprehensive as possible.. and since we know that this still has a remote chance of getting a DC release, I'm holding off.

As for the regular show.... coming up with a decent intro and ending is proving far more complicated than creating the actual show. ;) I don't want it to be as long as RetroCore's, because those are really too long... but more something that's quick, dynamic and eye-catching. Once that's complete, the standard show ought to be a breeze, although I would like to bring someone else in on the project who plays a considerable number of games (things are a bit more involving when you have interaction between 2 or more individuals).

I watched Retrocore's Saturn shooting special a while back.

Man, it bored me to death. He sounds like an 80-year old man, and he makes gaming seem less exciting that kniting. The video totally turned me off gaming for a few days.

He should be commended for his efforts to make such a video, but he should have got someone else to do the commentary. It is an awful, awful memory.

Might I recommend checking this series out for reference. It's meant as a spoof, but the format really does cater to gamers in terms of review-ness. :D
