Sony BVM D24F1E Help

Post by jedman »

Hi got a D24 recently, and noticed that the convergence is not spot on in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, couldn't seem to get it right using the on screen controls. While fiddling around exploring the menus I accidently hit the factory reset all in the extend menu, was worried about the consequences of doing this but as on offshoot it has reset all the picture adjustments back to 1000 as before for some reason they were way out from the standard settings and on 2000 odd for contrast, colour and brightness to get a normal looking picture.

I've been calibrating the geometry to get it spot on for each of my consoles but seems that geometry needs to be manually set for each resolution and also each screen format for every channel which is going to take ages.

Read on here somewhere that the tubes on BVM'S were replaced every 35000 hours or so, the seller said the tube has had a replacement at some point and my hours counter shows close to 35000 hours.

was worried that resetting to factory defaults may have messed up the adjustments made when the tube was replaced but I don't know much about the process. It looks pretty good to me in any case.

A bit annoyed as the screen has had the anti glare coating removed which makes it pretty much unusable with my curtains open lol.

Just this putting this out there in case anyone has had any similar experience with BVM's or is more knowledgeable about the subject and could put my mind at ease a bit.

You shouldn't have factory reset it. That was a big mistake. These monitors are calibrated and only usually require minor adjustment. Not sure where you heard about the 35000 hour tube replacement, but these tubes are designed to last well beyond 60,000 hours. Some even have 100,000 hours and are still going strong. It's possible that a tube can go bad, and your tube was replaced, like you said.

One thing to note is that the hours counter in the menu will continue to go up when the monitor is in standby mode. The BVM-A series attempted to fix this by having a separate "CRT Turn on time" counter.

Also, it's up to the factory repairman if he resets the hour counter or not after replacing the tube.

One last thing to note, is that no BVM will ever come with an anti-glare coating on the tube. That's consumer-grade stuff. The BVM is designed to be used in a dark room, so pull your curtains shut.

Im pretty sure that the tubes were usually replaced every 30000 hours or so, read it a couple of times on here in different threads.

Also all CRT BVM's have an anti glare coating, I removed one on my previous BVM.

If anything its better after I factory reset it, wouldn't the units be calibrated at the factory to begin with?
