Building a custom stick

Post by Tarma »

So after seeing a nos SNK CP on eBay, I came up with the idea of trying my hand at building a custom stick for my gaming set up.

At the moment I mainly use a Hori RAP PS2 stick and tototek convertors for the PC Engine and Mega Drive.

Therefore I'm going to make the stick PS2 compatible - so would it make more sense to canibalise the PCB of an existing PS2 stick or buy a PS360+ PCB?

The only other system I'd really like the stick to be compatible with is my Sigma AV7000, but the PS360+ doesn't support this afaik. Has anyone here got experience of building a Sigma compatible stick?

Isn't it just a straight in controls to (ultimately) JAMMA harness (and kick harness)? So you are looking at more of a straight through option similar to a Neo Geo? I don't have a Sigma AV7000. The one photo I found with a quick Google search mentions the compatibility with the Neo Geo controllers. You could either do an outside convertor for PS2 to Neo Geo or build/hack your custom stick to send everything down a Neo Geo style db-15 cable and run your PS360+ outside the stick.

The AV7000 doesn't use the Neo-Geo joystick ports unfortunately.

Sigma changed the connection to a DIN style socket I've not seen anywhere else. I don't know of anyone who does a PS2 - Sigma convertor.

As you already have PS2 adapters, I can recommend this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Zero-Delay-Arca ... SwWTRW1Te5

It works on PS2, PC and PS3 and you can use adapters for PS2->Xbox 360 or whatever. Also, it's very easy to install and cheap!

Cool, I'll have a look into it, thanks! :)
