Repair for dead Raiden board?

Post by Dylan1CC »

I recently ordered a Raiden I board off eBay from a seller "As is," it was only $40 so I couldn't resist, big mistake. Board seems to be completely dead, no display on my monitor, no audio, board looks pretty dusty and not in the greatest shape. I have no electrical experience at all (my supergun set up was custom made for me by a former member back in 2001 and recently got the urge to get the old beast out of storage and play some Progear) and am game for any tips and would be willing to send it to be repaired if it's salvageable, or should I just accept I made a poor choice? I have an Aerofighters board on the way from the same seller, hopefully that's not dead too. Anyways, here are some pics:

JAMMA connector and caps/fuses not looking good:

Nothing, I hooked up my phoenix'd Progear board just in case and it booted instantly of course:

Might be best in hardware.

Also - presume you're USA? - But exact location may help recommend a service or even a local volunteer helper - at least to work out where the problem might lie (then easier to work out if worth fixing).

Beyond that, I don't suppose you tried a multimeter looked into what may or may not be putting out a signal?

Thanks, I'm posting it in Hardware now. I'm in the upper Midwest, don't have a meter unfortunately.

A little toasty marks is common on the JAMMA edges of Raiden boards, I had one and it worked fine. I expect the board is repairable, just will take some troubleshooting. There's a learning curve with that stuff so you're best bet is probably to find a local arcade guy to take a look.

Sorry for the late reply, that's good to know, thanks. :)
