Retromeister Pro RGB cables

Post by Edward_Tz »

Haven’t seen anyone talk about these. My cables came in today from Solaris so decided to take some pictures of the insides. They come packaged in their own boxes with lots of bubble wrap.
They’re the JP-21 cables for Saturn, SNES, and PlayStation from Solaris/Micomsoft.

-Wires are individually shielded as advertised.
-Capacitors are Panasonic. Thumbs up.
-Overall build quality is great except one nitpick. The heat shrink that should cover where the drain wire from pin 21 is soldered to the shielding slid down. Doesn’t seem like much of problem since it would be hard for it to make contact with anything. Easy enough to fix if it bothers you.
They used a separate sound ground wire. (I don't know if this matters since consoles have a common ground?)

Only other things to note is the Saturn plug is very tight. You need to make sure it’s in all the way.
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 aren’t populated. Not really sure if that actually matters to anyone.

Overall these are the best cables I’ve seen on the market with just that one nitpick of the heat shrink.

Interesting. I never know Solaris made there own RGB cables. Are all three separate or is it a 3 in 1 type cable? Are they as good as say retro_console_accessories cables?

All my cables and my customer's cables are from retro_console_accessories (the lady on eBay). Without a doubt, this cable looks much much better!

retro_console_accessories hand solders all her cables (not use a prefab pcb). She also uses no-name china capacitors; not top notch ones like here.

The only thing going for retro_console_accessories is that she does JP21 and Euro. She also does custom cables to order (like csync booster for genesis, sync stripper, sync on luma, etc). So her "flaws" can be corrected for a $1 if you're good with a soldering iron. But, given the current exchange rate, and shipping from USA .. It would have been nice if I did not have to correct every cable from her.

Solaris has a bundle or you can buy individually.

Hello everybody,

I'm a brand new and happy owner of the Framemeister and ordered this cable with the unit. Took two days with express DHL shipping to the USA.
I am using it with my US SNES and so far had no problems with it. The picture is very clear and I'm playing Mario All Stars with activated scaliness with it :)
