Composite sync on the Sony BVM-20F1U

Post by brandon.arnold »

Hi all,

I'm confused about how the BVM-20F1U takes in the composite sync signal for RGBS.

1.) All BVM-20F1U units I've seen have an input card that has 4 inputs labeled R, G, B, and S. See image 1 at the bottom for example this card, which is in the middle. This card has no part label on it, such as the 24N. Is it shipped with the unit or something?
2.) In order to decode composite sync for arcade games, for example, I understand that the BKM-24N is required for this. Looking at the BKM-24N, however, I see 2 RGB inputs without a sync signal. Is this because the card in (1) above accepts the 4 inputs, and uses the BKM-24N for separating the H/V sync signals on the composite sync line?

yes.

no, you don't need any other card for that. If you have a RGBs source you can use composite video for your sync signal. A card with a decoder is required if you want to feed a composite video signal (not just as sync, but to display itl).

If you have additional cards like the 21D or 24N and would like to use them for feeding a RGB signal, you have to either use a RGsB signal (sync on green) or use the external sync input on the stock RGB board instead.

Iiiii see. So I don't need the BKM-24N unless it's literally NTSC composite video over the yellow connector.

Thanks so much--
