issue with VGA CRT monitor
I bought a CRT PC monitor today fairly cheap and I have it hooked up to my pc via a VGA cable for Mame etc. when im in windows it works perfectly fine but when I load up Mame and start a game the monitor turns off and on again, then once that happens it keeps doing it? if seems to very per game but i was guessing its down to changes in resolutions perhaps? its almost like it looses the sync, ive tried everything i can think of but no luck:( . any help would be appreciated , thanks

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
its probably changing to a resolution that the monitor doesnt support.

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
Are you using CRT EmuDriver? That's the only thing that would make sense to me, because that is designed for low-resolutions which are below what PC CRT's can scan at. Does it only happen with MAME or with normal PC games also?

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
I have the resolution set at 680x480 which is the lowest i can go (best for Mame, but it will show any resolution i throw at it). does Mame change resolutions at any point after a game loads up? for example, SF 2 champion editon loads up fine every time then it starts to turn off as soon as i get to the character select screen?
what is a CRT emu driver and will this help perhaps? it also happens when i enter MaLa, when im in it its fine, but when i exit the app it does that on and off thing again.
I've also noticed that when i go to display settings in windows XP its showing that i have a duel display option which is strange, maybe this has something to do with it, I've tried to remove the 2nd display (which i think says default but i can't)
cheers all

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
also just to note, when i first boot up and go to device manager all i can see under monitors is my CRT (Taxan Ergovision)...then after the issue starts and i navigate back to the device manager i can see that a 'default monitor' has been added too? so my guess is its trying to switch between my CRT and the default back and forth or something? but i dont get why it would add another monitor if my CRT has already been found and a resolution assigned to it

No, you don't want Emudriver, it's for low-res CRTs like PVM's and Arcade monitors.
Have you tried disabling this phantom second display?

What's your video card/driver version/monitor model number?

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
don't think it matters now mate , think I've knackered the CRT. now when i turn it on the picture is upside down and wont sync at all.
crazy thing though, when i put my LCD screen back into the PC that wouldn't sync either saying 'signal out of range, switch to native resolution'. i managed to sort this though by going into VGA mode and factory re-setting the LCD.
is it actually possible that a faulty monitor can affect the actual PC is this respect and therefore corrupt other screens, as it seems this is what has happend here?
very weird scenario that I've never come across before

I would get Display Driver Uninstaller, remove your existing video drivers, and do a clean install.
Don't mess with custom resolutions at all, get your displays working properly first.

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
The picture being upside down is a graphics card issue, not a monitor issue. That would be physically impossible for a CRT monitor to do on it's own.
So it's sounds like you need to do a complete uninstall of your graphics drivers, then install the latest ones.

Re: issue with VGA CRT monitor
i did that last night , put fresh drivers onto the PC. now the CRT picture is back to normal. but still does the same thing, looses sync when i play a game in Mame. i also tried connecting my laptop to the CRT and the sync thing happens straight away so it has to be the CRT as my LCD works perfect on both. think I'm taking the monitor back to the seller for a refund tonight
i think the CRT just has some kind of issue when something tries to change the resolution on the fly
