OSSC (DIY video digitizer & scandoubler)
Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
feedback after many hours of testing saturn + sotn
first important thing, i'm using a "normal" scart rgb cable, I can notice many desync with ossc (every 20sec or so), analog sync lpf help but it's not perfect (still have desync)
so i tried my cable with sync strike (csync) = 100% stable signal !
the other problem was with 240p/480i switching (still using SOTN saturn + ingame/menu)
like i said before, i had to remove problematic hdmi devices (matrix, capture) and you must NOT use linetriple mode (switching from 1280x720p to 720x480 cause hdmi resync but not the other way
my setup is now sync free ! proof > https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxvnD ... XdGYmRmckk
SATURN > RGB CABLE > SYNC STRIKE > OSSC (linedouble mode) > DISPLAY (tested on an LCD and DLP projector, same result but it is faster on DLP projector)
remove problematic hdmi devices + csync your cables + use linedoubler mode
note : SOTN switching on SAT is slower than PS1 (slower loading)

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
akumajo is that slight jitter from the camera or is it just there normally? Or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.
Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
Did you try tweaking analog sync threshold or H-PLL coast settings? They should also help to get stable sync even from sub-par composite source.akumajo wrote:first important thing, i'm using a "normal" scart rgb cable, I can notice many desync with ossc (every 20sec or so), analog sync lpf help but it's not perfect (still have desync)

What was the delay with just XCapture? With SC-512N1-L it's almost neglible, although I have only tried switching between 240p & 480i. Another good feature with SC-512N1-L is its passthrough DVI output port which doesn't seem to cause any switching delay, so it could replace HDMI splitters in many capture setups.akumajo wrote:like i said before, i had to remove problematic hdmi devices (matrix, capture) and you must NOT use linetriple mode (switching from 1280x720p to 720x480 cause hdmi resync but not the other way
Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
i tried both but not able to find perfect value, it's better but not perfect
also, now switching from game to menu cause hdmi desync !
for xcapture, i have an hdcp killer device which create the issue, without it is ok
note : with my sync free setup, you need to set AV3 to RGBS, RGBHV works fine BUT switching from game to menu cause hdmi desync

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
Strange that Saturn would require clean sync/csync with OSSC, normally the composite video for sync signal is fine, and csync is only really needed on XRGB3. What kind of Saturn were you using Akumajo?

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
That's actually a really interesting observation. I wonder how other switches handle this. Sadly the SC-512N1 is still a bit expensive.marqs wrote:Another good feature with SC-512N1-L is its passthrough DVI output port which doesn't seem to cause any switching delay, so it could replace HDMI splitters in many capture setups.

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
When will OSSC be available to everyone? I'd like to grab one of these
Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
Ok guys finally got my OSSC and it's pretty nice machine so far. I get some flickering on Dreamcast, but during gameplay it's negligible. On Component it's pretty much stellar. Playing CVS2 on Xbox with scanlines looks incredible!!! Input delay is non-existant and I'm looking forward to tossing more fighting games from Xbox/Wii into the mix.
Now to the dilemma I'm having...SCART. I can't get Genesis/Saturn/Playstation 2 to kick out an image. The OSSC LCD displays the signals so I think it's receiving the signal, but I get nothing on screen. I've tried several cables and even tried directly from OSSC to the TV in case my receiver was causing problems.
I'm using "EURO" scart cables, not JP21 and am wondering if that's the issue here. Then again I would imagine the OSSC wouldn't understand the signal so I'm a bit confused. Are there settings I should be poking around to get an image? does anyone have working settings for RGB consoles and is willing to share them? I'll try them out.

Ok for Saturn I get RGBS 263p 15.73kHz 59.82Hz
Genesis RGBS 262p 15.73kHz 60.05Hz
Playstation 2 RGsB 851i 15.70kHz 60.00Hz while playing a PS1 game
I get no image at all on my screen.

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
Could you try a component source too? If that doesn't get detected then there's a possibility that LPF chip is faulty. The boards were only tested with VGA input and that route doesn't go through LPF.Bahn Yuki wrote:Ok for Saturn I get RGBS 263p 15.73kHz 59.82Hz

There should be no flickering in progressive modes.I get some flickering on Dreamcast, but during gameplay it's negligible.
Works out of the box...does anyone have working settings for RGB consoles and is willing to share them? I'll try them out.
and we were starting to think zero faulty units in that batch, oh well! Have you tried another display just to be sure?

guys,is there another problematic saturn game that I should test before I clean up my room ?

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
You could give Prikura Daisakusen a shot, that used to have issues on the intro movie on the XRGB3. Virtua Fighter 2 gives a lot of 240p 480i transitions of course.

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
Just noticed that PS2 value, oops, you shouldn't be using sync on green mode when playing PS1 games.

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
With the Genesis csync cable I just got, I get some jitter with the OSSC. Slightly annoying, any tips?
Anyway, bug report I guess: saving analog sync lpf is useless. If you turn the OSSC off and on again, it does not restore the analog sync lpf setting, you have to go to the menu to turn it down or up one step and back again for it to apply.

Re: DIY video digitizer & scandoubler
Is that a passive cable wired directly to DIN-connector c-sync pin? Genesis c-sync output is weak and may not work well or at all when connected to 75ohm terminated input. Tweaking sync threshold setting might help, but I'd try a normal composite video cable or tap more suitable c-sync from CXA chip output if possible.ZellSF wrote:With the Genesis csync cable I just got, I get some jitter with the OSSC. Yes, that will be fixed on next fw.ZellSF wrote:Anyway, bug report I guess: saving analog sync lpf is useless. If you turn the OSSC off and on again, it does not restore the analog sync lpf setting, you have to go to the menu to turn it down or up one step and back again for it to apply.

I might have screwed up either composite video on my genesis or my composite video sync cable trying to fix jailbars.marqs wrote:Is that a passive cable wired directly to DIN-connector c-sync pin? Setting sync treshold higher actually helped a lot (I was sure I tried that already), now I can only see jitter if I sit three feet away from the TV and stare intently at individual pixels. Which I probably should not be doing anyway.

yes, for me linetriple mode should only be used with pure 240p games or not critical 240p/480i switching gamesFudoh wrote:doesn't the OSSC revert to linedoubling mode with a 480i source signal ?sotn (linetriple mode): 240p [526 0] > 480i [525 1] (resync)

Could you quickly try if SCART input is any different? Interlace via VGA works through my own hack (TVP7002 doesn't natively support it with H/V sync) so switching might take a bit longer than on SCART/component.akumajo wrote:pulirula : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxvnD ... 3NRckQ0Qlk (perfect)BuckoA51 wrote:You could give Prikura Daisakusen a shot, that used to have issues on the intro movie on the XRGB3.
