Which games use 239p btw? From quick googling I only found Ys IV using that mode (verified that with an emulator). I can't tell you any game that uses it off the top of my head, but it's definitely incompatible on my Sony TV too.

Hey, just wondering if anyone has tested the OSSC with a power base converter? It's the only thing I can't seem to get working atm, I get an image then it cuts out and comes back. Could just be my actual power base converter though, it's seen better days.

Question. I'm itching to get back into retro lightgun games using CRT as a display. So I have to decide round tube tv, arcade monitor, or crt monitor.
Assuming I play PS2 Resident Evil Dead Aim using GunCon 2 on a crt monitor(or arcade monitor. not sure if they're the same) using OSSC to output from component(PS2) to HDMI//DVI to VGA(using some converter) AND deinterlace 480i to 480p.
So...my question is will the deinterlacing effect the GunCon/light guns in anyway?
On a side note, can you use arcade monitors for PS2 or any retro console for that matter?

I tested using Master System ROMs on an Everdrive and that worked okay, I was using a CSYNC cable.Hey, just wondering if anyone has tested the OSSC with a power base converter?

If you're using an OSSC on a CRT using a zero-latency HDMI-to-analog converter, then some of the more primitive light-gun setups (like the NES Zapper) should still work, no? IIRC if you've got an appropriate flicker (which doesn't even have to be remotely close to 60Hz it turns out) and sufficiently low sub-frame latency, it still works.Fudoh wrote:video processors kill all lightgun functionality.

but then again the NES zapper even works without a TV - just with aiming at any other light source. All other light guns - not so much.(like the NES Zapper)

The NES zapper does not work with a light source like that, although some earlier such devices might.
Basically, I would think that any light gun from the 8-bit era or earlier should work with the OSSC on a CRT, and any light-gun from after that era wouldn't.

The NES Zapper definitely works just putting it next to a light bulb, all it checks for is bright light, which is why when you pull the trigger the screen goes black for a frame except the object you're shooting at which is white.
I would assume any light gun that relies on a sync connection with a T-adapter (which is almost all of them?) would be broken by a video processor modifying the sync signal.

That's not how the zapper works, and the way it works explains why it doesn't work with a lightbulb. I tried that years ago, pointing it at a light bulb doesn't do anything.
When you pull the trigger on the zapper, the entire screen goes completely black, and then for the next several frames (the same number of frames as there are targets), white squares appear and then disappear at each location. It's the change from black to white that the zapper uses to know when it's pointing at a target, not simply that it sees light on a given frame, and it's for this reason that the lightbulb doesn't do anything. In fact, they did that specifically to avoid the light bulb problem.
EDIT: Here is the Nintendo patent that deals with this, which explicitly states that they do this so that light sources don't identify as the target:

Wikipedia says it's up to the game's coding to ensure you can't cheat with the Zapper, then proceeds to cite a Columbia University paper that doesn't seem to have anything supporting that argument... Oh well

Is there any info on the price range OSSC will fall into? I can solder DIY kits if that helps bringing the price down, I would need at least a few units for my arcade cabinet projects.

Might be worth checking out the EMS topgun range, they work quite nicely. I have three, they work really quite well for PS2 with my LCD.

You can PM me about DIY kits. Since you're from around here, it's possible to save on shipping costs. looks great. You should have captured how the XCAP/OSSC combo reacts to the 240p/480i switch though (when you enter the menu screen on SOTN). Could you do this ? Just a short clip....

Can someone test VF4 Evo on PS2? It switches video modes several times before the main menu.

SOTN PS1 doesn't actually use 480i menus. That's a a Saturn-only "feature".
Just pulled out both copies to check through my DVDO (using a Saturn and PS2>component), there's no mode change on the PS1 version with the menu screen.

i'm thinking on ideas to improve 240p/480i switching with hdmi displays and critical timing games
an important step is to remove all your hdmi devices to reduce the sync delay (matrix, splitters, capture, dvi to hdmi etc).
I saved 3 seconds on my setup !
ideas :
- add a mode like on iscan VP30 + ABT102 (threat 240p as 480i)
- add a mode to convert sync refresh based on current 240p refresh rate (for exemple with SOTN saturn, switch from 263p 15.72kHz 59.97Hz to 525i 15.72kHz 59.90Hz, what if it OSSC change 525i 15.72kHz 59.90Hz to 59,97Hz ?

Indeed, when I first got OSSC and I was running through all kinds of switches and splitters I was getting 7 or 8 seconds.I saved 3 seconds on my setup !
Does anyone know if Borti's digital audio board for OSSC would effect this too?
