HELP ME!! About to cash out on these Saturn Shmups!

Post by Never_Scurred »

I have been craving Saturn shmups ever since I joined this board. First I dipped my toes in with Souky and the Salamander pack, then I went loco and copped that Battle Garegga and Batsugun (shoutout to dunpeal), but now, its taking over me mind. I never realized SS shmups were like CRACK, I keep telling myself "spending $200 is crazy, get it together brother", but that Hyper-Duel is CALLING ME! Damn this monkey on my back. I don't even care that Twin Cobra II is emulated......Shit, I am on ebay about to drop rack-on-racks on these Saturn shmups. Someone talk me out of this madness, I am not a collector, but I gotta cop.

Since you're not a collector, do yourself (and your wallet) a favor and get a Rhea. Installed mine, and sold my collection. No regrets.

Thats good advice.
Although, if I may play devil's advocate for a moment, after I got an ED64 (which I got because 1. its fantastic 2. to curb/end my collecting), I still collecting
If in doubt, wait it out. 200 clams worth of buyers remorse aint a pretty sight

Rhea is great indeed, no hassle with discs - I stopped buying the games after that.
Original hardware is what counts in my book :D

I think Strikers 1945 and Sonic Wings Special are the only affordable Saturn shmups left.

Kyukyoku Tiger II's Saturn mode is yoko wobble only so not worth bothering with. Like Gekirindan (which is at least a much better game and until recently cheap as chips) the price has rocketed for what is an completely inessential purchase.

Gone are the days of "I like this game and want an actual copy of it... ooh these Saturn ports are reasonably priced"!

Oh man, thanks for the suggestion! I went to the Rhea page, but unfortunately, the developer doesn't want my money. He's closed the orders :(

pseudo Saturn?

*edit* also it's always worth remembering that the prices on these games are not exactly going down. you can always sell them on again later and get your money back, or maybe more. if you have the spare money for it to not be damaging to buy things like this, then it's not really sooooo bad.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of Darius Gaiden for a good price (~3500 yen as I recall), but yeah, most Saturn shooters are pretty ridiculous these days. Any time I see a copy of Batsugun, I feel like it's daring me to get it.

Keep an eye on his page, check it once a day if you need to. He will reopen at some point.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.
