Oh boy, Hey guys!
Thought I make an account here, late rather than never. Thought it was in my best interest.
I'm very much into the shmup genre for appreciation rather than a test of my own skill, Though I like to make myself proud once in awhile. A lot of hard work goes into making the art and sound, and I'll never let go unnoticed.
My love for the genre came to life fairly late after obtaining the extensive Gradius collection of Music and grew an interest in playing the games (my favorite being Salamander 2), and watching Seahawk0027's masterful plays. I'll be inclined to give anything a go, if there's a ship to fly. Danmaku, SATAZIUS, the up and coming Blue Revolver... (to name a few)
Now my main love is the Darius series, and was ecstatic when I got to finally play DBAC without having to fund a trip to Japan (though that would be great to do someday). In fact when I tried to develop my own shmup, I wanted to see if I could make it in a dual screen format.
Yes, i'm currently a Game developer in training, learning Unreal Engine 4, and have been since the beginning of 2015. I've mostly been experimenting with what we've been taught in class, but it's given me opportunities to make something I'd really like to show off, but I would have to, at the very least, get it functioning, where it begins and ends.
I do have something to show, but it's purely a 'proof of function'. Actually made under the tense of an assignment.
Take a look here: https://totemsp.itch.io/shooting-game
I managed to create a 31:9 ratio, but I've yet to know how to enforce that in the window size.
I've even managed to develop a powerup system. I'm pretty impressed with this, but there's currently only one powerup, and while it's very powerful, it spits out a lot of actors at once, and each of them have dynamic lighting, which is a bad idea.
These are minor problems, but the unbalanced enemies (or the one terrible enemy) may provide a real challenge. You may be experts at this, but it's likely the randomness will definitely give you a bit of trouble.
Anyway, i'll wrap up for now. And know that I've put quite a bit of work towards a new version, with much more balanced gameplay, and new features... also under the tense of an assignment!
Thanks for having me aboard, and i'll look forward to... well... improving my project.
