SCART to HDMI "Video Converter" Mini Review

I bought this to display my RGB-compatible consoles on HDTV's at meetups and so forth. I thought it would be a decent solution that didn't involve plunking down $350 for a Framemeister. The short of it is: it worked ok with my Neo Geo Omega (CMVS) and Dreamcast. It displays a stretched widescreen image (not quite 16:9, but no 4:3 option). It looked and sounded decent. Not great, but passable. Lag was calculated to be 7 frames (0.116 seconds). Again, not horrible, but not great. This is all using 1080p60Hz. The other settings (1080p50,720p60,720p50, and 768p60) either didn't work on my TV or looked inferior. Then I tried my Twin Famicom w/ NESRGB. Black screen, but had audio. Damn shame. I have other consoles (Saturn, Genesis, SNES, PS1) that I'll try this weekend most likely.

You'd be better off using a 1950's black-and-white TV with RF, IMHO.

Update: works with SNES, Genny, PS1 and Saturn. The image isn't quite 16:9 for anything, so maybe why it doesn't look quite so bad to me, but it's wider than 4:3. Tried another NESRGB installed NES, still no picture. This is really the only thing I'm disappointed about. For $25 shipped, though, it's still better than nothing.

Thank you for the review. Looks like the recommendation is to use the $25 as shipment payment for a more decent converter.

i'd only use this for capturing purposes (converting to HDMI to go into a capture device)

Other than that, 7 frames of lag is totally unacceptable to me. I could not play a game like that.

Would be interesting to have a peek at the PCB inside, which IC's are in use etc..
