KOF '95 tournament on VHS

Post by FinalBaton »

*MOD please move this to appropriate thread if need be. I checked around but I couldn't find a Youtube thread or "Video you just watched" (as opposed to"movies" and "TV") thread, nor did I see a "fighting tournament vid" thread*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-7RjQDXUYM
This is my favourite video on the internets right now.

First of all : I love that someone took the time to transfer a VHS to Youtube, especially since it's gaming related. Really applaud the dedication here.
Old school tournaments like these are little pieces of video game history that are very fun to look at. I mean : look at the 90s-ness of this. LOOK AT IT. God I miss the 90s

Second : I like that some of the contestants are dressed up as the character they're playing  Now that's some high level nerdery! Gotta respect that.

There is the fighting game hype thread for future reference. I definitely think it fits there!

This is awesome. I like how they're hot-seating. There's a related post about team fighting that I've been meaning to write.

Yeah I love the formula! You not only need to beat 3 characters, but 3 players as well.
And when someone cleans up 3 people by himself (or even 2), with just little life bar recoveries after each round, it's very impressive.

It's prompting me to organise a couple of matches in that formula with friends at my place. it looks like a ton of fun

One of our very own members named Arasoi manages the Retro Reality Gaming channel on YouTube. Here is a thread with information on it. :D

Awesome to see people enjoying this upload, it's one of my favorite tapes. There's also Gamest Mook tape covering a Garou Densetsu 2 tournament:

For more 90s type stuff try the Capcom Friendly Club uploads, not subbed either but fun anyway:

Lots of fun stuff here, like Rockman photobombing on customer support:

That vid made me want to play the game, and I just ordered KOF '95 for my Saturn

(don't have a Neo Geo (although I plan on getting a Supergun + MVS board at some point) so the Saturn version will do. From what I've read it's one of the best fighting game port ever made for a 32-bit machine : http://www.gamefaqs.com/saturn/574199-t ... iews/16910)

Oh man, that Capcom Friendly Club VHS series is gold! Thanks so much for sharing this, Arasoi.

I wanted to work for Capcom so bad when I was a teen. I even worked on a portfolio containing my drawings with the intent of sending it to Capcom USA, but I never did ;_;

Capcom in that era were untouchable, they were just a MONSTER developper
