Would the retro freak look good through a frameister? It looks like the RF's video menu allows you to run it in the game's original resolution. Would outputting that via hdmi to the framemeister and then tweaking settings and scanlines have good results or am I missing something? Would it become too laggy?

It adds an extra ~1.5 frames of lag, but considering the RetroFreak outputs 720p HDMI... why would you?

More scanline adjustability? I'm thinking of getting a framemeister to use w/ a modded AV Famicom anyway so just curious if there would be any major problems using the retro freak with it too.

You can just directly HDMI mod the AV famicom and skip the Framemeister altogether.

But then I wouldn't have scan lines. Gotta have the scan lines.

The FM cannot add proper scanlines to a 720p signal.

The only way to get properly aligned scanlines from the RF is to set the output to native. This way you get proper linetripling (e.g. 224 lines to 672, the rest is padded in black), but your aspect ratio takes a hit, since the RF then assumes a square pixel ratio. The RF's scanlines are also a bit on the soft side.

I can't remember right now - but can the RF be set to 480p output at all ?

The HDMI mod for the NES supports scanlines.

Well, I received the RF in the mail today and after messing with the settings on the console and my tv for while i finally got it looking and working really well. I still have to update the firmware once i get a new SD card but even now I have to say it runs and looks great. Definitely an awesome all in one solution for all but the gamer with the most critical eye. Might not even bother getting my famicom modded now. Would be nice if you could choose alternate color palettes though. I did have trouble getting my iBuffalo pad to work, but the stock pad is pretty good and the adapter worked fine with my nes dogbone pad. Looking forward to testing this more and posting other thoughts.

I got my iBuffalo SNES / SFC clone pad to work ok in the games that I tried, but my NES iBuffalo pad hasn't shipped yet.
Which one did you try? The button mapping interface takes some time to get used to, that's for sure.

The SNES one. But to be fair I gave up after a few minutes. I'm sure I'll get it to work once I figure out the button mapping.

Does this retrofreak console take American SNES style shaped cartridges?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
