Advice on shipping 32" Sony BVM across the Country

I need to ship a 32" Sony BVM from California to New York (across the country). I need to figure out what my options are to move this 200 pound machine safely and cost effectively.

What are my options? Who's had their heavy monitors shipped?

Freight shipping is the way to go here.
You will need to have either the seller or a 3rd party company that specializes in packaging to securely package it on a pallet. Once you have that done you can have it shipped via freight. Obviously this is really expensive but there are ways to save a lot of money.

Basically the biggest fee will come from the wight of the item itself. But other fees can add up really fast and make it expensive. Things like needing a lift gate or a loading ramp, packaging fees, and other fees i can't remember really jack up the price. Be sure to talk to someone first to help you out.

I figured it would have to go pallet. I think the seller is willing to take care of the packaging.

I had my NEC XM37 Plus shipped via freight

I submitted my form on Uship.com, and once I fond a bid that pleased me, I accepted it.
(Make sure to do a background check on the companies whose bids interest you! I cannot stress this enough.)

You absolutely need the seller to put in on a pallet. This will increase you shipment's safety a lot.
The shipping company I chose were very thorough regarding packaging, and even requested the seller to pack and "paletize" the monitor in a certain way

Hi Carthik,

I had my 32" BVM shipped freight from Utah a few years back. I'd suggest that you ask the seller to pack it well and to protect the screen especially. Mine came through OK, but these are prone to damage during shipping supposedly.

Also, you may notice a purple or green tint in one (or two) of the screen's corners when you first power it up. This can be corrected in one of the menus – the screen isn't damaged.

Oh, I just saw the note about the pallet: mine was definitely shipped this way and it was probably why it came through OK.

If the seller is taking care of shipping I recommend stressing just how much support anchoring the monitor to the pallet will need. Definitely mention to put extra packaging on the top of the monitor. Even on a pallet the 2 likeliest things to go wrong is the monitor falling from the pallet and someone stacking another pallet of heavy shit on top of your monitor.

I had a 32 inch Barco professional monitor that I had shipped from Colorado via freight on a pallet, needless to say the monitor was damaged because it was not anchored to the pallet correctly, the seller used thin rope and put my monitor in a box meant for a grill. If possible have him use a plastic wrap for securing the monitor to the pallet and make his/her own box, not use an existing box.

You'll probably fair better with shipping than I did due to the BVM being more of a cube. Best of luck getting this beast of a CRT!

I had a BVM-D32 Shipped from Los Angeles to New Jersey. I used freightcenter.com. Then I had it shipped from NJ to Norway. It arrived fine. It was padded with bubblewrap, boxed and strapped onto a pallet.
