It's a shame IMHO...the charge shot is such a cool idea, I wonder why most other mainstream shmups have not copied this idea? IMHO it's much cooler to have a charge-shot weapon than a bomb.

Didn't you read the earlier posts? Detana Twinbee, Twinbee Yahho (with four charge options, three of them shots), and Iridion II are vertical. It's debateable whether or not that laser thing in Donpachi/Dodonpachi is a charge shot, but you can make it bigger with a bomb and it is a stronger shot that is seperate from the main shot. Someone also mentioned 1943 and some Psyiko games (and that includes some of their verts). There's also Dangun Feveron with the roll charge shot. I'm sure there are plenty of other verts with charge shots too.tehkao wrote:Ooops you're right Sokyu doesn't have a charge shot, I think I was thinking of another game....
Actually vertical shmups with charge shots are pretty rare huh? The only one I can think of offhand is Elemental Master (well it's more like a charge which activates your super magic attack)

1943 NES, but it might not have been in the arcade. 1943 Kai TG-16 doesn't have a charge shot. Umm, a good amount of horizontal and vertical shmups use charge shots and some games like the Donpachis have borderline charge shots. I don't know where you get this "fringe" games idea from. The Twinbees were very popular in Japan and R-Type is still considered a classic to this day.tehkao wrote:1943 had charge shots???
I don't remember that at all.....
Oh yeah, Biohazard Battle had charge shots too...
Ok maybe charge shots are not as rare as I thought they are.
But I still think most "popular" shmups don't have charge shots..you usually find them in the more "fringe" games.
