Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 240p?
I am curious and am ready to budget in a nicer capture device that supports 240p, can be internal as well. Thanks for reading the thread.

Startech Pexhdcap takes 15khz 240p RGB over the dvi connector.
I have a custom Vga to female scart cable, that i then use with a Dvi to vga adapter.
I can plug any of my scart console cables into it.

Startech Pexcap might be the way to go, I was just curious if there was anything else out there.

The micomsoft card. but its expensive, it usually has to be imported, and it uses the same chipset as the startech card.

What exactly do you mean with "supports 240p"? There are lots of devices that can record 240p content without problems. Do you want only RGB or component devices? Does it matter if it records in 720x240p or 720x480i?

My Startech USB3HDCAP does 240p RGB without a whole lot of work. Unlike my old PEXHDCAP, this unit doesn't have a shitty shift on the Pr channel after it internally converts to YPbPr.

I believe someone mentioned one of the pro level cards (Magewell Pro Captute AIO, Epiphan DVI2PCIE, or Datapath VisionRGB E1S) confirmed either on here or another retrogaming forum for it.

I suppose the thread is a bit vague, I'm seeking out a card that amarec can identify the 720x240p without going over to 480i. But it seems like it's either the Micomsoft SC-512 or the Startech PEXHDCAP 60L is the way to go.

As mikejmoffit stated, the Startech USB3HDCAP also is one. Recognizes 240p as such

If you're doing RGB I have to recommend the USB3HDCAP over the PEXHDCAP, because the latter has this awful horizontal shift on the Pr channel (looks like capacitance). Both carts convert RGB to the YUV colorspace before capture and processing, and that's where the Pr delay is. AmarecTV has a correction option for it, but if you're going to record with OBS or anything else I don't know of a way to solve it. I suppose you could write a custom filter for it.spike007980 wrote:I suppose the thread is a bit vague, I'm seeking out a card that amarec can identify the 720x240p without going over to 480i. Can we see some material you captured natively using the USB3HDCAP ?

Re: Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 24
yes, but that's postprocessed. I'm just wondering about the initial capture quality regarding the chroma subsampling. What's the initial capture resolution ? 720x240p ? Or 480p already ?
What kind of sync processing does the USB3HDCAP require on the it's VGA input ? Can you feed RGBs with composite video for sync ? RGBs with clean sync ? Or is RGBHV required ?

Re: Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 24
Oh! Sorry.
Yes the original capture is 720 x 240
I use my monitor's passthrough, wich I guess spits out what it receives? (in my case : RGBs clean sync)

And you're initially capturing in 4:2:0 ? (+ added a question above)

thanks! YUY2 is usually 4:2:2 instead of 4:2:0, which should explain why your reds look rather good and sharp.
but likely only after the upscaling process, right ?but in post processing I convert it to 4:2:0

Re: Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 24
Nevermind that, i just checked my Virtualdub settings, as I thought I converted in 4:2:0 in there, but turns out I don't.
I never know wether I should let Youtube do the chroma subsampling to 4:2:0, or if I should do it myself before uploading :/
Oh well, I get pretty good results color-wise, I guess I shouldn't worry about that.
BTW I found the raw capture of that game footage. I can upload it if you'd like. no problem.

sent.
I cut this part in the VLC media player, hopefully it exported in the same format as the full video was
This raw footage was captured using the "lagarith" codec, but I selected the YUY2 color format to reduce the size, as stated above.

the file you sent me is a 1280x720p file, so it's hardly your raw recording, but your upscaled video, isn't it ?

Thanks for the videos and information everyone, truly appreciated. It looks like I'll budget the USB3HDCap.

Re: Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 24
What about the color space issue? When using the old PEXHDCAP or the SC-512 with anything but the oldest available drivers they recognize everything as BT.709. This does not seem to be a problem with the XCapture, so hopefully the same goes with the USB3HDCAP. The Pr delay is still present with the SC-512, and it's really annoying. Would it still be a problem if I were to use something like an OSSC, or is the issue only present when connecting via VGA?mikejmoffitt wrote:If you're doing RGB I have to recommend the USB3HDCAP over the PEXHDCAP, because the latter has this awful horizontal shift on the Pr channel (looks like capacitance). I could probably sell my SC-512, get a USB3HDCAP and still make some money off of it. The passthrough is sort of neat to have though...

Following the discussion we had on this topic I'm indeed as well interressed to know if there's a way to have 4:2:2 encoding properly handled by Youtube. If the USB3HDCAP produce better results than the Elgato on this matter maybe it would be a way to solve my scanline issue.

It only happens with the RGB input, I don't even see it when doing VGA-resolution stuff. HDMI/DVI is absolutely fine on it.Calle W wrote:What about the color space issue? Re: Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 24
Thanks for the info! I'll wait for the OSSC until I make up my mind about what device I should go for. It seems the Pr delay is only present on 240p material for me (Wii 480i looks the way it should). Hopefully the OSSC can solve the color space issue as well, since it might also be RGB related. Otherwise I'll probably switch to an XCapture or USB3HDCAP. Passthrough and RCA audio is broken with the drivers I'm currently using, but I don't really have a choice.

Re: Does anyone have a list of capture cards that support 24
Not sure if I should be 'regretting' my recent purchase of the pexhdcap60L, but it hasn't exactly been as pleasant after owning it as I wouldve hoped. As someone who went in wanting to capture 240p RGB most of the time, with the exception of some 480p, I went and assumed the card with 60fps support would have that format mastered - come to find out I needed to do some workarounds and revert to Win 8.1 to make the drivers not choke my CPU, oh and no 240p RGB support (running Startech .142 atm).. Maybe the 60fps spec was a consumer trap, in which case I fell for it. Anyway I hope there is still support for this card for the future. My fear is it'll just been completely neglected with the USB3HDCap hardware being more stable for Win10 +. I am still sadly using Intel onboard video via my 6600k as I am 'patiently' waiting the arrival of Nvidia's 1000 series line, not sure if this is crucial in the capturing, encoding, streaming quality or not..
