BVM 20F1E Brightness and Contrast settings?

iv'e been playing with these settings for a while now trying to get the best picture possible and was wondering what settings you guys use for your sets?

On the BVM you can set both between 0-2000 manually and Iv'e found that the optimal settings (for me) are Brightness set at 920 (where you can just see feint lines in the back areas) and Contrast at 1250 (where the picture has a nice pop but keeps detail).

when you go to Contrast at Max 2000 or even near that the picture looks way too bright, but I know some people like that type of picture. i even find that if you start to go beyond 1500 you loose a bit of detail and picture blooms too much.

so interesting to see what you guys think.

also, when using RGB the other two knobs (i think its Croma and Phase) do nothing? is this supposed to be this way?

Aside from liberties taken by various manufacturers, contrast sets the "white level" and brightness sets the "black level". It sounds like you have the right idea - set contrast as high as you can without excessive blooming on full white, and brightness as low without crushing darker colors. The specific values for each to use will vary from tube to tube.

Yes, the chroma (color) and phase (hue) settings do not apply to RGB inputs in general, as they're only used for signals that are decoded to RGB. Even then, depending upon the signal to be decoded the phase (hue) setting doesn't apply. However, there are TVs that include hue settings for component sources even though a hue setting shouldn't be required in theory.

iv'e always found it hard to set contrast and brightness as it tends to depend on what game is on/system, as some games look brighter/darker than others. I guess its about finding the correct balance.

does anyone else feel that the N64 gives a darker picture than the snes for example?
