320x240 black bars
When I display 256x240 it fills my 4:3 screen, but 320x240 is very thin. I get black bars on each side of the screen. This resolution should fill the screen too.
I get this problem with both emulator and actual console (Sega Genesis). What can I do to fix this?

What produces the 256x240 signal? Surely this should have black bars?
320x240 should fill screen.
edit: ah megadrive at 256x224 / 256x240 pal? ... suspecting pal/50hz issue somewhere...?

What make and model is the screen?
What's outputting the signal and what signal is it? E.g. arcadevga @ 15khz? etc. etc.
...
If it's just vga on an lcd you might just need you to press the auto adjust/similar button on your image settings for the monitor - depending on resolution + sync some lcds don't display/adjust automatically or have trouble doing so.
If crt you might just have to adjust the screen geometry manually anyway. This used to be very normal for many crts + analogue signal whether 31 or 15 khz

I have 3 monitors connected to a Extron Matrix switch. 1.Pioneer PDP-401 Plasma and 1 Sony BVM-D24E1WU and one similar, but a 32"
All monitors have blackbars @ 320x240. Console is a Sega Genesis and from emulator it is from a PC with ArcadeVGA 5000 card 15Khz signal.
Signal is RGBs.
The console produce a little wider picture than the PC, but still thin.
I have a LCD PC monitor connected to the PC also in case I hit a resolution the rgb monitors does not support. On this monitor the picture look normal, but signal is DVI and 31Khz.

Which switch is it?... used with scaling/signal conversion or simply used as a switch?

It does not matter if the signal goes through the switch or the source is connected directly to monitor. The result is the same.

I've no idea offhand... if it was just console I'd presume some kind of overscan issue ... but wierd it effects 320x240 and not 256...
Just to be clear with your bvm and other 32" screen you're getting the same significant horizontal borders too inside the what would be the 4:3 framing [not just the 16:9/16:10 framing] from both console (NTSC?) and emulator (@60hz?) ... ?
... Presume this must be something to do with megadrive... This isn't just a specific game is it?
Do the screens behave differently to a 15khz 240p signal from another console? Same question again regards to 480i ?
I presume they all show 640x480p 31khz fine?

If anything you'd expect a perfect 4:3 resolution to work (320x240) and have issues with 256x240 instead.
I'd cautiously suggest that somehow you've set geometry/phase/frequency across your screens to deal with 256x240 and now have a problem with 320x240 on certain inputs with saved non-auto-adjusting settings. It doesn't look like pioneer auto adjusts from manual but no direct experience myself with that screen or the similar 402... (most regular digital screens will attempt to auto adjust and stretch image to fill screen - some more specialised screens such as this one may not by design, and just stick to user defined settings).

I see pictures and videos of other people with the same type of setup I have, run this resolution without issues.
They are switching between consoles with different resolutions, and there are no issues what so ever.

how "thin" are we talking ? Can you take a picture of the Genesis connected to your Pioneer ?
Did you use the Pioneer's service menu adjustments to widen the image ? Don't you have enough leeway using the geometry controls, both on your Pioneer and the Sony CRTs ?

I can take a picture of how it looks like, i'm just not able to do it at the moment.
I probably could make it fit with geometry controls, but then I would screw up the other resolution?
I didn't thought it would be necessary to tweak geometry for each resolution. maybe I can save two different geometry settings on the bvm..
