But the EDGE can framelock adding more lag, so it's kind of understandable that it would work. The vp50pro (like the the vp30) however seems to work differently allowing only very low lag locking as far as I've experienced, or it's refusing to lock completely.
Thankfully it's still able to lock an impressive range of signals (much more than the vp30), but that doesn't mean everything of course, it's not a G-Sync module lol, though its limits haven't been fully identified I think.
That OSSC linetripled mode could be out of the vp50pro's range yes...hopefully it won't forever.

I could imagine that using the RGBHV input shows a higher compatibility than using the HDMI input, so there's certainly a lot to try.

Does going through a DVDO add compability or is it the same / worse than directly to TV?

Can a DVDO Edge work with this thing while not adding more than 10ms lag? Or does the Edge not do low lag mode because of weird sources?

How about the XRGB-Mini? I know "why not do XRGB-Mini all the way", but it's more convinient with HDMI Splitters.

The DVDO Edge has excellent compatibility in my tests, it's so far the only thing that will tolerate the OSSC when using the Megadrive in 480i mode. All line triple modes are tolerated too, so yeah it totally adds compatibility.

On some sources (e.g true NTSC Megadrive, Super Famicom) it adds only between 6 and 8ms and has perfect frame-locked stutter free scrolling.
How about the XRGB-Mini? I know "why not do XRGB-Mini all the way", but it's more convinient with HDMI Splitters.
How so? I could test it in pass-through mode, I know the pass-through mode isn't true 100% pass-through.

That's true, if XRGB3->VP50 pro works, same sources should work via OSSC and a simple digital to analogue converter. Though perhaps HDMI will work now the new firmware is out. Hurry and get that 50 Pro tested for me Fudoh

For some direct comparisons later I have the vp30+abt102, original EDGE, and vp50pro.
All three behave differently, while the vp30 can lock at 6ms it is rather limited in range, the edge can lock much more sources but in my experience gives 25ms lag more often than 6~8, and the vp50pro beats both plus adds adjustable details/smoothing.

It's annoying though I don't have anything like a DVI>RGBHV...

Okay so here´s the thing. I have an x68000 with a cable someone modified for me such that I can connect a vga monitor to it. I also have a 31khz old ass nokia crt monitor. Of course 31kHz games work fine. 15kHz games show no signal.

DIY for this is out of the question for me. Look, this is me assembling diy kits:
Image
yeah, that doesnt work.

Now. I live in Finland. While I could order the pre-assembled kit from videogameperfection once everything is nice and ready... wouldnt it be silly to order this overseas with customs and all when the kit actually comes from Finland? Is there no way any Finnish store could sell a small number of this? I would recommend one of those web stores that sell custom pc hardware and such. They probably have solder-capable staff as well. maybe worth negotiating for the what must be like 10 people in Finland who would want this but cant solder worth a ****.

Aren't most DVI to VGA converters supposed to be lag-free? Stuff like this:

Yes but I don't have one and I'm certainly not going to buy an expensive HDfury.
I'm sure someone already confirmed a reliable cheap alternative somehwere but heh...

We're both in the EU, that means no customs charges whatsoever. Although there is the danger that UK will withdraw from the EU after our referendum (I'm hoping we stay in of course) it will be at least 2 years before we're fully out and we have to worry about such things.

Shipping will be a bit higher than domestic, but only by about £5 or so.

I'll try it with my HD Fury 2 if it's necessary then I had intended to pick up a cheap as chips converter for testing the Gamecube HDMI mod too. I will be sure to check the input lag as well.

I wonder if cheap startech knockoffs like this one would do http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RWF ... ZEGDW5ZG34
Don't remember if I'll need to feed it power.

I'll try HDMI first anyway.

ah, my bad. I was somehow assuming it was a US store. A bit of browsing around would have revealed the pound prices of stuff on it

@ marqs:

Thank you for your e-mail.

My order depends on whether or not there is already a solution for the SNES 60 Hz issue. Maybe I will wait for an appropriate firmware update and the next batch of OSSC's.

On page 2 of this thread it sounds like you already would have found a fix. ('I decreased the coast duration from the recommended values to minimize drift, after which TVP7002 PLL didn't lose lock anymore and output sync stabilized.')

+1 on the hopes for a SNES 60hz fix. There was mention of the fix making the firmware quite SNES specific. I hope some kind of SNES 60 mode can be called up in a future updated option.

Just a auick confirmation, my memory's terrible; if I'm receiving emails from Video Game Perfection does that mean I'm on the pre order list (I submitted a form a while back for a fully assembled unit)? Sory to clutter the board.

Further fixes for the SNES are unlikely I'm afraid, at least that's what I've been told. However OSSC and SNES still works on every monitor I tried and a number of TVs.

Mantrox wrote:For those that have a unit already, can i get my harmony remote to work with the OSSC by adding the profile of a specific NEC product or do i have to go the with the old code programming?
NEC IR transmssion protocol is widely used among manufacturers, not just specific to NEC devices. You can either select just some keymap from Harmony and program OSSC to work with it, or program Harmony with specific OSSC codes.
blizzz wrote:What's the final price for the pre-assembled boards? The form says "X EUR (excluding VAT)", does that mean we have to add the VAT for Finland to the price? That would be an extra 39€ if I'm not wrong.
VAT is added to the price of OSSC board and IR remote (if selected), but the given shipping prices have VAT included. For EU citizens, it is 24% (Finnish VAT). Overseas buyers pay the duties along with customs as usual.
Guspaz wrote:Aren't most DVI to VGA converters supposed to be lag-free?
Yeah, they're certainly doing something stupid if there's latency added.

The "market" is probably too small here for any local web store getting units on their inventory, and UK is not that far. However, I thought I could occasionally take some boards with me on local demoparties and sell them there if there's people interested.

Ok, I understand. Before the fix mentioned on page 2, OSSC itself could not properly sync with SNES 60Hz signal. Now that OSSC can live with the unevenness in sync, it's just matter of the display tolerating the output signal which partially suffers from the property. It remains to be seen if the signal can be improved to the level that all displays accept it, but currently there's no easy solution.

Btw there's Simulaatio 7 demoparty (http://simulaatio.org) coming up in May, in Finland. I'm hoping I'll get my OSSC before that so we can use it for Amiga stuffs at Simulaatio7 :)

The Nano GX is only $90 at their store. And you can find the original HD Fury for around $30-40 on ebay.

HDFury is almost certainly overkill for use with OSSC though, there's no HDCP or anything like that so a basic $10 converter should do just as well, but I'll look into it.

Thanks for the explanation.

When connected directly, my TV (Sony Bravia KDL-55W905A) does not seem to have an issue with the SNES' unusual sync signal - the picture is displayed flawlessly. Does that mean that the OSSC's linedoubled picture might be displayed correctly as well?

"receiving emails"

I subsribed to the videogameperfection.com OSSC mailing list and got one mail until now (the one telling me about the first look). I presume this is right? I normally wouldn't ask, but all this talk about pre-order lists etc. makes me squirrelly :D

So. I'm sort of looking for excuses to get a new TV now... and there's one question about the OSSC:

If I convert a SCART RGB source, then I will need a TV with full 4:4:4 RGB support? Limited range RGB only TVs will not display colors properly?
BuckoA51 wrote: How so? I could test it in pass-through mode, I know the pass-through mode isn't true 100% pass-through.
Basically:

Component & RGB sources to OSSC.

OSSC to HDMI splitter that goes to both TV and XRGB-Mini. So I can choose between TV (low lag) or processing it with the XRGB-Mini (better scaling, custom zoom control).

So not pass-through mode. Just wondering how the XRGB-Mini itself deals with it. Also curious about the VP50 (input lag & compatibility).

Mini's 480p scaling isn't great though, wouldn't it be better to split out your component and RGB sources between the two scalers?

the Mini's 480p scaling looks fine to me. I only intend to use the XRGB-Mini (maybe a DVDO Edge or VP50 eventually) for compatibility cases or when I have special scaling demands.

Not something I want to complicate my setup more for.

Just tried it for you and can't get the Mini to accept the OSSC's signal at all. Weird. I need to dismantle and check my setup at some point as that doesn't seem right.
