I won this auction here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222074463715
The colored lines on the top I saw as not being a large issue. In all Trinitron-based sets I've used, there are three tightly placed dim RGB lines on the top of the raster, usually hidden in the overscan area. My guess is that the vertical height or position is out of spec, and it is wrapping around the top of the display while it should be hidden. That, or a simple re-cap.
Otherwise, it looks like a good unit, pretty excited for it to arrive. Are cap kits a common thing, or is that a list of parts I'll have to create for myself?
...now I may have to sell off my other RGB monitors.

That's normal, it's present on all PVMs. It's in the overscan area, so it shouldn't be a problem. If you're seeing them on top of non-overscan image area when using an actual input, then that'd be a problem. Otherwise, just adjust the horizontal/vertical size so that the overscan is correctly calibrated.

Well, they're normally there, but the ones in the picture are vertically further spread out than I would expect. This guy had another auction where he listed it with the same problem, but the monitor was just in underscan mode. This one, however, is showing them in normal mode. When I get it, I'll take a look in the service menu and get the geometry within spec if it's not.

I fixed the problem. At first, I tweaked 16:9 mode to be equivelant to what I want in 4:3 mode, but sure enough, 22point8 was right - adjusting the blanking to be earlier moved the lines off-screen where they should be. The set looks great, thanks for the hot tip.
