Journalism of all kinds is largely terrible. We notice it more in gaming since we know more about that than we do in other fields, but political, musical, movie, economic journalism or whatever is mostly written by people who at best have a cursory knowledge of what they are talking about, and at worst have no idea at all but write thinly veiled propaganda for the people that pay their wages. And they manage to influence the opinions of people who don't even have that basic knowledge. It's always been like that and it will always be the same.

Only tangentially related, but at least one impression of DoAX3 suggests that the game isn't worth all the hoopla it caused. And yes, it's on Kotaku, but the writer was apparently a fan of the first two DoAX games, and does praise how good the characters look here, but finds the end product reeking of laziness elsewhere.

Series maintaining form as expected then  Image (anyone remember Edge's "The Girl Issue?" Ooh guvna! Me nan were right appalled)

Worth it for the P-A joke and accompanying righteous indignations from usual quarters Image speaking of which:

At launch I would agree with you, but 1.3 (2.0 patch needs more work) is pretty great. With 2.0 it could be even better.

Now is not a good time to get it though, the 2.0 patch is rolled out and is in need of some fixes, but in six months I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the enhanced editions to anyone who wants to get into the series.

As much as I'm a fan of authentic playthroughs (no Tutu, no installing Throne of Bhaal while still in Shadows of Amn), Baldur's Gate has some really antiquated and frustrating game mechanics. Baldur's Gate II has some really bad and potentially game breaking bugs. It's really not for everyone.

To me there's too much of a George Lucas factor going on with this company. I think i'll just stick to my own modded versions of the originals and ignore this ill conceived expansion altogether.

Turns out that Alison Rapp was probably an escort.

No linkage, for obvious reasons. This is surreal.
I still don't care about this woman, due to her having NOTHING to do with localization. But this going to be quite the black eye to all her apologists, in the media. So, that's a good thing.

They'll probably just say "GG posted revenge porn!", like they did with Zoe Quinn. Even though most of the discussion is not on GG specific forums.
The kind of heat GG comes under, when dealing with women, is a bit much for me. I'd rather steer clear of it. Unless it's Leigh Alexander, or Anita.

THE funniest thing, is that on her ad, it talks about wanting to talk about the fall of Capitalism, and that you and her can go to a comic book shop. :D
Also, if you talk bad about women, you get blacklisted.

As I said, a company like Nintendo needs to jump through hoops to fire western staff, they wouldn't take such action lightly.

That said before we assume this as gospel I wouldn't mind seeing some source links to the story, as I can't find anything in Google.

Additionally, if this is true how stupid do you have to be to publicly state "Nintendo allow moonlighting so I don't understand the problem" when you're moonlighting as an escort. Not exactly smart.

Not exactly an official news outlet.

Hopefully this is OK on this forum.

Honestly, as messy and public as this is getting, I'm feeling kind of bad for her. Even if it's her own fault.

That would be news to me then, the US must differ from the UK considerably. Firing anyone from a corporate environment in the UK can take months even with a strong case.

Thanks to some private links I'm more convinced that this is actually factual. There seems to be a real thread here that looks less and less tenuous the more you explore. If so every journalistic outlet and SJW asshat who shat on Nintendo for firing Rapp should bend over and bite their own balls off in apology, since Nintendo took the SJW HEAT for Rapp without ever outing her publicly. That's incredibly professional and fair of them.

As for Rapp, if this is true, she's going to be even more fucked than she was when she was Maria Mint. Time to quickly join the third-wave feminist fold and find a safespace to hide!

Here's something you won't see the press report on.

'Rapp got fired because of an angry misogynist internet mob! How dare they, and how dare Nintendo buckle under pressure from a loud minority!'
'So what if she posted lewd pictures of herself and a thesis not 200% condemning pedophilia on the internet? A woman is free to act as she pleases!'
'So what if her lewd pictures contained a picture of her holding a Nintendo product when she had a job at Nintendo as PR spokesperson? Still, if it weren't for those damn gators, Nintendo would have never bothered looking, so screw them anyways!'
'S-so what if she moonlighted as an escort? It's all still inevitably the fault of Gamergate!'

Still, expecting people to own up their mistakes and take responsibility on the internet are just unrealistic expectations when they can just turn a cold shoulder to everything and pretend nothing ever happened while hiding out in their safe spaces.

Even when you disregard the third of the U.S. workforce classified as "contract" or "freelance" workers, who have absolutely zero job security, if you're not unionized you can pretty much be let go from most places at any time with no explanation; just this morning in the paper there was an editorial by a writer who worked at a tech company where they kept baseball-style "trading stats" of employees to determine how they'd stack up against a theoretical replacement, and euphemized layoffs as "graduations", among other things.

Pretty dystopian nightmare.

In the UK it's the opposite. Unless you're a zero hour contractor, in which case you're barely even recognised as human, firing someone from a company is like fighting through mountains of red tape pouring out of HR and down the stairs. Far too difficult.

There's that debate in France at the moment too, of course there's the argument that since it's too difficult/expensive to fire employees, loosening and cutting our work laws to make it quicker and less taxing would make companies more comfortable with hiring people again.
But that's total BS, because businesses for long have showed there's still a huge advantage in firing pretty much all of your expandable workforce and outsource to China or wherever poorer/cheaper, even if that means paying a heavy penalty in your homeland.
At the moment France is vaguely trying to copy-paste some laws like they did in Germany long ago, although apparently without realizing we're 20 years late and lack many of the strenghts that would make such a reform even a little bit effective on our own market. Technically doing the same as some of our neighbors right now would be suicide.
There's no real solution for us frogs anyway, as I believe our country and society have been 100% tailored and tuned for the 20th century France, which had a lot of specifics, and we'll never adapt to today's new game rules (extrememly obvious with every passing day).
After all even when you're considered valuable in France you have significantly more chances of getting a better job and pay abroad (maybe not within the EU, but considering so few of us can speak at least a little decent English it's kind of a huge challenge).
Of course, companies eliminate the small fry but you think they would do anything to keep the decently qualified and working ones? lol no, every worker who doesn't produce the equivalent of 4 or 5 by himself (I'm not exaggerating), in other words who is not a kind of 'elite' whether he's managing 100 or vacuuming the office, or is not a shareholder/associate, is seen as a burden.
Seriously, really, beyond the weight of taxes and administration there's that gargantuesque greed that's still making the most profiting ones want to keep even the crumbs to themselves. Though it's mostly mid-to-big sized businesses 'owners' behaving like that (you can include higher-income civil servants), because most small artisans/trades/businesses aren't even really taken into account when our leading elite geniuses build their useless reforms.

Uh... no. They can open themselves to litigation if it's unjustified, but justification takes very little. Say something stupid in a tweet and you're gone. Employees generally have few rights when it comes to employment in the US compared to Japan where it's generally skewed in the employees favor, and Europe where (from what little I know) it seems to be somewhat even.

Japan is notorious for not being able to fire anyone. I can't say it's totally great, but it's better than the US alternative. I worked for the Tokyo branch of a shit US bank (it was Bank of America, but you didn't hear that from me). They cut my group globally after having a very strong year (in a recession year no less) due to their global focus changing. Whatevs. Anywho, on the Japanese side, they generally bought back your holidays, and kept you on the payroll for 3 months. The generous package (after only working there like 18 months) was to avoid litigation for sure. You also got about 3 months unemployment from the government which was 80% of your pay. I started work 3 days after and it didn't mean shit. I still got all of the above. It was nice. Our expat (in the bank sense -- they worked as US employees sent abroad) got butt fucked. The cumpany basically gave them 2 weeks severence for every year they worked for the cumpany.

In the US, you're elligible for about 3 months of unemployment when you lose your job, but it's a max of $1800 USD a month... at least in California. And the wheels of capitalism keep on moving.

Uh... no..
No, really. I worked seven years as a Murdoch slave and had the unfortunate experience of management and being forced to take people through the disciplinary process countless times. On all occasions an actual dismissal took months, even if the guy was useless from day one: poor punctuality, attendance, attitude and productivity. HR shields them in Kevlar and there's no dismissal without at least three disciplinaries and three opportunities to rectify results and waiting on three occasions for HR to find time to schedule a meeting with an HR rep. Goddamn pain in the ass. Some guys needed the boot day one.

I'm not sure why you're disagreeing on this tho - you have experience with UK company processes?

This Rapp story is really gaining momentum.

Personally...I hate it. It's one thing that it's out, and all (I'm OK with that, as Nintendo got a LOT of grief for firing her)...but people are just smelling blood in the water, and are just posting tons of jokes and pics all over Twitter. I don't care for this kind of stuff...but it's the internet, I guess.

Once the meme ball starts rolling, it cannot be stopped

If there's a lesson to be learned from GamerGate, it's that you shouldn't leave your personal info hanging around the internet, nor that you should stir the bee's hive.
The reason why I picked my nickname is because if you google it, you will only find links to the mythical sword and Marathon, rather than pages of embarassing mistakes. There's also another unrelated account on a brony fanforum with the same name long before I even heard of Marathon, but that's inevitable I suppose.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if this was the Leigh Alexander type, but this woman really isn't anyone of importance. She's not even a journalist. She's just...some woman, with bad ideas. I don't really see the reason to go so all out.

However, this stuff is out there, and it's really juicy. So, that doesn't help.

If the shit that is currently floating around is even half-true, she is scum. Latest news is that she wasn't only a prostitute herself, she also forced her husband into selling himself online for gay sex to get more money. He was/is sucking dick for money to give it to her. I won't link but a quick google search should deliver the juicy details. Keep in mind, he is hetero, or cis-gendered, whatever you prefer. There is currently a meme about cuckolds very en vogue on the internet and often times used false, but hell, he is like THE definition of a cuckold.

Imagine for a second if the roles were reversed. She has has zero sympathy from me.

I was about to say something like that.

Sounds hard to believe for an average hetero sexual male unless there was some super blackmail involved or he already had a lot of sexual confusion.

I think you guys underestimate how much you can pressure sb who might not have the highest self esteem into doing things they don't really want to do... I know a gal who was more or less forced into sex with a dude and he didn't even have to use physical force.
