always depends on spine, condition etc. of course but in the neighborhood of $50. I wouldn't pay more than that but then I'm not a collector. Don't remember how much I paid for my copy, that was over a year ago IIRC.
Not trying to knock it though, very enjoyable classic. Everyone will tell you special edition is better than normal, they're wrong
Check out Rando's ST once you get it. The most valuable advice is the C button > A button, faster autofire rate...you see the same thing in SS donpachi and dodonpachi.
I'm assuming you're talking about the Saturn port of course (why would you get the PCB, anyway?)
I wasn't going to make a new thread for this, but I saw DDP at play-asia today for $30...that's usually in the $50 range as well, I suggest anyone who doesn't have it, get it there, now.

Well, to be fair, the Satacore version generally goes for around $30. Play-Asia also had the Simple 2000 Shooting (i.e. Shienryu) + Helicopter for $10 but that got snapped up pretty quickly.Neon wrote: I wasn't going to make a new thread for this, but I saw DDP at play-asia today for $30...that's usually in the $50 range as well, I suggest anyone who doesn't have it, get it there, now.
Anyway, IIRC, I paid $58 total for a mint copy of Batsugun with spine years ago and the price has stayed around the $50 range since.

I found a brand-new copy of Batsugun in the Super Potato store in Akihabara. They were selling it for something like 8600yen. It was either that or a new Limited Edition of Jet Set Radio for the DC.
I got the LE. And I am thinking of going back to get Batsugun as well.
Jeez, I could use some more money.

IIRC both the "regular" and "special" versions are playable in MAME: the graphics are a bit messed up and there's no sound, but gameplay-wise they work well, if you just want to try them out.professor ganson wrote:Batsugun is probably the most glaring hole in my collection-- haven't played it but I'm quite sure I'll like it since it's supposed to be one of Toaplan's best.

Mind you, I like simplistic design.
Batsugun is definitely up there for me. At first I was like "Eh... this game is kinda mediocre", then I sat down with it and got good at it, now I'm "Batsugun f'ing rocks!"

Another huge thumbs up for Batsugun. One of my fave shmups of all time, beating out a lot of the so called classics. Perfect music, perfect gameplay--hell, the whole thing is both fresh and super nostalgic at the same time. That and you get two different versions of the game on one disc. I really don't get not owning this one...if you like shmups.

Thanks, BM. I have never tried MAME, actually. Someday, perhaps.BulletMagnet wrote:IIRC both the "regular" and "special" versions are playable in MAME: the graphics are a bit messed up and there's no sound, but gameplay-wise they work well, if you just want to try them out.professor ganson wrote:Batsugun is probably the most glaring hole in my collection-- haven't played it but I'm quite sure I'll like it since it's supposed to be one of Toaplan's best.

re: MAME. Batsugun without sound? Pfffft. You gotta have the gloriously cheesy rock trax that are Batsugun's music.
That's why I love Batsugun, it is very manic but still forgiving without being easy. Plus, I love the little hidden score items you can uncover (the ship on the runway, the pigs, ect.) Still need to try and exploit Jupiter's tanks proper.neorichieb1971 wrote:I think Batsugun is the Saturns best shooter and i've played most of them.

The tanks are a whore to do in regular edition. Larger hitbox really throws me off there.Dylan1CC wrote:re: MAME. Batsugun without sound? Pfffft. You gotta have the gloriously cheesy rock trax that are Batsugun's music.

Here's a question for you guys - Although my copy comes in one of the thicker CD cases that normally gets supplied with games with thicker manuals, mine only has a thin manual so the extra space in the CD box seems wasted.
Am I missing something on my version that would have filled up the extra space like a catalog book or something? Thank you!

That's how I felt about it too. If you asked me about it 4 years ago, I'd say it's a crap game.jp wrote:neorichieb1971 wrote:I think Batsugun is the Saturns best shooter and i've played most of them.

Don't have enough shooters, myself, but man...the music is amazing. Actually played a track on Winamp radio back when my buddies had one going for a while, and people were like "whoa?! Awesome!" High praise from guys who rather listen to Natalac than ZuntataCMoon wrote:Perfect music, perfect gameplay--hell, the whole thing is both fresh and super nostalgic at the same time.
