Gotta say I was pretty disappointed with Broken Sword after beating it a couple of weeks ago (not a big fan of Beneath a Steel Sky either). I grew up playing most of the Lucas Arts adventure games, and compared to those I just don't find the Revolution games very impressive. Broken Sword is one of the few adventure games of this kind I managed to breeze through, without using a guide at all; that's a good thing, because I think some of Lucas Arts' puzzles were too difficult (there were a couple in LeChuck's Revenge, The Dig, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, et cetera, that were almost ridiculous), except the puzzles in Broken Sword are also much less clever/interesting/complex, and just not as fun to solve. I didn't much like the structure of the game either -- how you travel around between different locations that are completely cut off from each other -- but I doubt I would actually mind if only the aesthetics would have been more impressive. Animation is good, but only a few of the locations feel inspired (I really liked the atmosphere in the museum, one of very few memorable settings in the game), and the story as well as the characters were pretty annoying. Still actually enjoyed it though, but pretty surprised I've only heard people praising it before.
I'm playing Westwood's Blade Runner now, which has also been pretty much challenge-free so far, but the story seems much less obvious and more demanding of you to paying attention, and the atmosphere is so goddamn awesome I don't really mind the lack of proper puzzles anyway.
What I'd really like to do next is to try Westwood's Kyrandia series and some more Sierra games (like the first Gabriel Knight, as well as the Quest games -- I've only played Phantasmagoria so far). I briefly tried "I have no mouth and I must scream" (by The Dreamers Guild) recently, which seems to be an amazing little hidden gem, but I will refrain from playing any of these until I have a proper Win 95/DOS machine and a VGA CRT.
Are there any point & click adventure fans on here...

I completed the first and second game in the series, really enjoyed them. But I couldn't finish either of them without guides. Don't feel bad about spoiling yourself if you get stuck after a while, some of the puzzles are pretty tough to crack - especially early in the second game where it outright misleads you.zinger wrote:What I'd really like to do next is to try Westwood's Kyrandia series

arghhh, that sucks. I was really looking forward to it. admittedly, I jumped on it because the graphic style looked similar to the dragon's lair games but from the beginning of the remaster... it doesn't exactly seem that way. maybe that's how broken sword 2 is?zinger wrote:Gotta say I was pretty disappointed with Broken Sword after beating it a couple of weeks ago (not a big fan of Beneath a Steel Sky either).

Spoiler

you should probably hop on samorost 3, though it's spawned into a 30 hour game now which can be seen as a pro or a con o_OKennyMan666 wrote:Used to be a big fan of them, still like them even if I don't play them as much anymore. But I'm currently playing Botanicula and it's one of the most adorable p&cs I've played. Loved Samorost since the first time I discovered it back in the day.
I have Tales of Monkey Island on GOG, should get around to that some time... but want to beat Escape first.
have you played any of the original monkey island games (secret of monkey island, monkey island 2: lechuck's revenge, the curse of monkey island)?
a creature... half solid half gas

No idea about Broken Sword 2. You should probably give the first one a spin anyway though if you're a fan of the genre; it definitely has a certain charm, but it also has a lot of flaws and just didn't come close to the expectations brought about after I saw this trailer back in the 90's:
