Daytona Lets Go Away

Post by PowerofElsydeon »

Hi Im new to the Saturn and I ve got the Daytona CCE edition cause it was cheap
When I pluged that dork in I was disapointed the Game didn t play like the arcade I dunno how to explain that but it feels like a diferente game with the same tracks
I mean the Game has new music new tracks and new cars so it s a cool alternative to the racing classic but isn t there anyway to turn that crap off and play like the arcade?

How about the original Saturn Daytona I ve heard it has a crappy framerate and graphical problems
But is that one arcade perfect gameplaywise?

I know about the Dreamcast version but...
Wich versions are worthy besides that one

Sorry for my broken english

They say the original port has the best physics and A.I, it's supposedly the more faithful port even if it looks like shit.

Then the Japanese CE (or the rare CCE Netlink in the US) features the best everything else: more cars/circuits, better framerate/graphics, selectable original music, 2p mode, link, analogue controller compatibility, etc.

The handling/drifting controversy was never cleared though, from what I've read people who complain about CE's handling don't mention the slide sensitivity is configurable in the options.

Anyway those are only ports, Sega racers kind of suck on consoles after you've played them on their original cabs...

PSN/XBLA versions reign supreme over the other ports. I play the XBLA version with a racing wheel and pedals, and it's pretty darn sweet.

I never understood how to properly take sharp turns in Daytona. I love the music, the vibe and everything but I will forever grind walls starting from the intermediate track

Quite the contrast to Sega Rally which is really intuitive and easy to understand.

There's a great guide by deca for this over at Rolling Start, here. When I finally decided to start learning the game, that post and the one following it helped me immensly, and I managed to get my Advanced course time down to 2'58''66.

Oh, that's a great read. I will be sure to try those shift patterns next time I fire this game up. I have both the Saturn version (normal one) and the Xbox 360 port and I've really wanted to enjoy this game more  I even listen to the Saturn soundtrack every so often.

Edit: It works! The hard thing now is to remember which buttons the gears are mapped to as I'm used to sequential transmission in racing games :p

Sorry for the doublepost, but I just got 1st in Beginner and Advanced and it just makes me so excited! Sure, they were not perfect rounds and I bounced about pretty much but the last lap on advanced I managed to nail all corners without hitting the wall, so there's some hope for the future anyway

3,20,79 was my time on Advanced - not super quick but at least I'm able to play the game now, so thanks again for that guide, Ghegs!

Edit: This was on normal difficulty in the 360 version.

Nice, you're on your way. :) If time attack is your thing, there's a thread for that as well. Hope to see you there!

Still waiting for my Scud Race and Daytona 2 ports.....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I only like the original Daytona release on Saturn.

Yes, it has horrible pop up and framerate but the gameplay is sound.
