Raiden DX JAP n PS1 and saving problems

Post by Shoonay »

Hi y'all, this is my first post so hopefuly i'm posting in the right forum...

Recently i've downloaded from eMule the JAP version of Raiden DX, and i'm having problems with saving hi-scores.

Although the menu is mostly in english, and i've managed to set quite a few things, some parts are JAP-only and can't make anything out of those "signs".

No matter what level i choose in the options menu (Very Easy/Easy1/Easy2/Easy3/Arcade), or just before the game (Training/Novice/Expert) i can't make it to the score board - after the final score summarize, when i die (... on purpose ofcourse ;)) i just got rebooted just after the moment after the exp level choosing (Training/Novice/Expert)!

There is a save-block already on my mem-card, and the auto-save option is set "on".

What could be the problem?

Played and loved the Raiden Project, and never-ever had problems with saving in it, so it's mostly annoying and even not worthy playing IMHO, without score saving - shmups are made to compete! 8)

No, this is probably not the right forum to discuss downloaded games. Bad boy! ;)

PS. Welcome!

PPS. I think my original copy saves fine, I'll give it a swirl later.

Uhmmm... sorry  ...i'll keeps my mouth shut next time

The thing is, i wouldn't be able to get an original - here in my place - even if i wanted to, but that's just my problem  ...and getting one from "foreign countries" is way too expensive  ...

Nevermind, i'd really like to know what to change in my setup, to get my (very low at that time ;)) hiscores saved :?

Ok, I tried. Mine saves fine. I set it to autosave and then saved once. After I got a highscore, I input my name and it did save automatically.

Are you sure you are using a PS1 memory-card? When playing a PS1 game in a PS2, saving on a PS2 card does not work. You have to use a PS1 card.

Hey, no sweat, the game's 9 years out of print, I don't think anyone is losing any sleep over you downloading it (well, maybe some of those ebay sellers with their jacked up prices). I was really just kidding. As long as you don't go around pirating newly released SHMUPS I for one couldn't care less.

Make sure you've got all gameplay-related option settings at full default. The game won't save your scores if you're adding a few extra bombs or anything like that.

Talk about the obvious  ...
Yup, after setting 2 lives/bombs - it saves well.
Now for some more testing :)

Many thanks nZero! 8)

Mine says (c) 1997 in the manual/back cover and I bought it used in Tokyo in '98.

There currently is an ebay auction for one which looks slightly different from the one I have. Mine has "Seibu Kaihatsu" written with white Kanji/Kana on the lower right of the cover, while this features a white box with a red-yellow logo which is also on the spine (that logo isn't on the spine of mine, either). Maybe that's a reprint?

Exactly, a reprint - the same I got. Consider yourself lucky to own the original - the puzzle game demo is missing on the Major Wave release.

Taken from the often overlooked GameFAqs dtabase:

Release Data

Raiden DX Seibu Kaihatsu 04/11/97 JP SLPS-00728
Raiden DX Hamster 10/26/00 JP SLPM-86656

I've done the same, I had to play this game, and I have to say I love it. I've also played the PC version of Raiden II, and due to it running slow, I was able to complete it, I eventually ran out of lives in loop 2.

LOL, I never even knew it was there.

When you select "special menu" on the title screen you can play a puzzle game called Mezase! Senkyuoh (めざせ!戦球王). Plays like Puyo Puyo.

Thanks for pointing that out, Turrican

Why are those ones on ebay going for so much? Didn't UD sell his for like $15 on the trading forum awhile back?

I'm lusting after this game, let me know if any of you guys want to sell your (legit) copies...

15 USD for a first print would be a total bargain - I'd buy it twice.

I had no idea, but apparently Raiden DX for Playstation is very rare. That reprint on ebay is the only copy for sale I could find anywhere. It's currently easier to get a PCB than the PSX game.

Meh, not that rare, just high in demand oftentimes. I've seen the original go for as low as $28 w/spine on Ebay.
