Sharp LC-15SH6U 15" LCD EDTV For Retro Games

Post by EpicDave »

I recently bought an LCD EDTV by sharp to use with my super Nintendo with S video and ps2 with component. It works really well. It has a great picture on. For some reason the pictures I took of it shows vertical lines going down the screen but they arent there when looking at it. Anyway I really love this thing and I thought id let you guys know about it. It also has virtually no input lag at all. I've recorded a video of my self doing the manual lag test on the 240p test suite on snes. I also tested the same suite on the wii to see if 240p through component worked right and it does. It works fantastically. PS1 looks great on it as well through the PS2's component cable. It's a great alternative to a CRT for anyone a cheap replacement TV or looking for one with low input delay. It only cost me 25 bucks on craigs list.

Here is a link to an album I uploaded with pictures taken of a few snes games and 1 ps1 and 1 ps2 game. There is also a link to the video I made of the manual lag test.

You connected straight without any use of upscalers?
looks pretty good if thats the case.
Most defenitly would be a good alternative for those who cant use crts or dont want to spen much on upscalers.

No upscalers at all. I've always wanted to get the Xrgb Mini but I couldn't afford it. But yeah despite the fact it's and LCD TV it has no input delay to speak of. It's kinda mind blowing because i've never come across an LCD that didn't have any. For example my other HDTV which is a vizio 32 inch. It has at least 18ms which isn't that bad when playing 1080p content but not very good when you need precise input on lets say gradius or something.

You're welcome! I just really wanted to let people know about it cause I never see anyone talk about those early EDTV's. Now at least we can have an alternative to CRT's. Not to mention the fact that tv weight about nothing lol so moving it around is a breeze.

An interesting choice. I'm guessing the main drawbacks are motion blur and low contrast given that it's an early LCD. And of course the size, depending on what you're looking for.

The pixels look kind of weird on it though, almost like there's a Scale2x filter on them... Do they look better than in the pictures by a good bit? I might be focusing on the S-Video shots more, but I would assume that shot of whichever X game that is (4?) is on the PS2 through component, right?

That's Mega Man X4. Also blame my phone for the quality of the pictures. It's a cheap android phone with a crappy camera. The games them selves actually look really clear in person. The motion blur is there but really slight. It doesn't hinder gameplay. It's a small price to pay for everything that's great about it. When you stick your face up to the screen the pixels do look defined. Especially with the PS2 using component.

I'll take your word for it then, congrats on the purchase! I use an EDTV myself and love the look, though mine's a 42" Panasonic plasma that doesn't handle 240p properly and probably has a couple frames of input lag in 480p. Still a great option for 480p titles, everything looks razor-sharp.

What I would like to do is track down the larger version of the sharp. They have pretty much the exact same tv but in 20" It looks identical.

One on Ebay right now
Ah. 90 dollars is a bit much but I suppose if ebay is the only option some folks are stuck. I would totally check your local craigslist. People practically give these things away. Mine cost 25 bucks and i've seen other similar tv's for less.

Just looked around on craigslist and theres one at $45 bucks rick now. Kinda want to pick it up just to try and see how it looks but my only component system are the PS2 and Wii/Wii U.
