Whats wrong with my Dreamcast games?

Post by theevilfunkster »

Quite a number of my Dreamcast games simply refuse to work, either crashing after a few minutes or just failing to load completely.

Most of the non-woking games are bearly marked and a couple are brand new.

I've tried the various Dreamacst fixes on both of my DCs (power supply pins, laser adjustment etc...) and tried the games on a friends Dreamcast but still the same problems.

My curent non-working list goes like this,

Virtua Tennis 2(new)
Swords of the Berzerk(new)
Worms Armageddon(I have 2 coppies, niether work)
Virtua Striker 2
V-Rally 2
Street Fighter Zero 3

Anyone else have this problem?
Are GD roms just iffy?
Or are both of mine and my friends Dreamcasts completely fucked?

I found GD-roms on the DC to be majorly flawed. One scratch would often make the game unusable.

Most of the time the machine would reset by itself.

If you are using RGB cables with your DC, bare in mind that alot of games will not boot using RGB cables. Street fighter zero 3 is definately one of those games which will not boot with scart cables.

to get around this, boot your machine using composite/svideo or VGA box.

Yeah, I know about Street fighter zero 3 and various other games (Giga Wing :x ) not playing through RGB cables. When it worked I had to use an RF cable

I've got the PAL version now so no such worries.

I find DC to be Sega's most unreliable machine. Some games fail to boot/load initially or require several attempts. I've had to replace the GD rom drive once. I also busted one of the controller ports for unplugging and plugging a pad while the system was on. And I also used to encounter a lot of the random reset bug. However, I attempted to remedy this using the tutorial and oddly enough it worked for all games except Tennis 2k2. Sad given that this is my favorite game for it.

I know it sounds like magic, but apparently running GD-roms under hot running water can fix some problems. Something to do with the glue they use in the discs.

I think it was Skies of arcadia which started that whole thing, which didnt boot straight from being sealed. Its worth a try if youve had no luck so far, unless you want to use them as coasters or something.

The games are fine, either buy a new dreamcast or recalibrate the lens. Had the problem with virtua tennis 2 last month used the knowledge of reseting and sorted it.
