I have a general question. You use 8-way or 4-way to play shmups?

If you are talking about sticks/d-pads/joysticks, then 8-way is definitely the way to go. Inputting diagonal movements with a 4-way is hell.

But I noticed that I get a lot less hit on 4-way than on 8-way, but maybe that's me

Absolutely individual like "Stick vs gamepad vs keyboard". I prefer 8-way but not XBox 360 controller.

Interesting question. Does anyone here prefer 4-way when it comes to controls?
