Great documentary, a very well detailed and interesting retrospective about the series.

However there was thing he didn't mentioned like the doujin shmup Broken Thunder or how Go Sato and Kaneko Tsuyoshi managed to bring the Thunder Force feeling on TFVI. The Dreamcast Thunder Force VI wasn't canned due to the Dreamcast's failure, it was because Tecnosoft went out of business.

No respect for the X68000 TF2? 3rd level of parallax, better colors, better sound hardware, and harder difficulty. This vid is lame.

It is a great series.

One of my favourite tracks on the MD is Metal Squad from TF4.
I like 3 and 4 the most. I own 6 but have never played it. 5 on the Saturn was ok but just didn't do much for me.

That channel have made some very classy features. I can recommend the Castlevania one that they did too.

Also, have a look at Shooting Gameside as they have a feature on the series in issue five.

If you like that type of gameplay have a look at Gate of Thunder. It is nowhere near as challenging but a nice Shmup all the same. There are a few Shmups that play similarly too but I cannot recall any right now :)

They did mention TF2 on X68000 but, yeah no love for it. None of the things you mentioned, plus the fact that it had several levels that were cut from the console version. Doesn't make it a lame video, but your point is noted!

Wow, insane production values on this video.

The Thunderforce games are great. If you haven't played them yet you're in for a treat.

I love the TF series! I have 2-5 with 2 and 4 being my favorites. Game 3 is good, but everything feels to big on the screen plays a little crowded for me.
The video is definitely great, and I didn't even know there was a part 6! The vid didn't make 6 out to be very good, has anyone else played it? Is it worth getting?

6 is similar to 5, with a couple of tweaks; if you thought 5 was okay then 6 isn't a bad pickup, but if that one didn't light your fire neither will this one.

6 is way too easy and rehashes a lot of parts from the other games.

That being said, it's not a bad game, just a disappointing one compared to the lofty standards of 3, 4, and 5.

It becomes less of a pushover when you unlock and play with the Rynex-R.

Thanks for the info on 5.
It was okay for me, but I was put off by the ugly polys, back when I first played it. I did like the directional laser attack; that was kinda neat. I'm going back to it and trying it again with fresh eyes.

Wow, incredible production values. Awesome! Can't wait to play this series more, sadly the one I've played is Thunder Spirits, which I actually thought was pretty good.

Amusing trivial mistake in the video: it says that the music utilized "both PCM and PSG" but in fact, it used only FM and PSG. Or at least the ones that I've listened to VGMs of. The drums are all FM drums. Very good FM drums, though.

EDIT: made a similar mistake to the author of the video, lol.

Nice editing, shame about the eSports narration.

Part VI doesn't actually look that rubbish, hmm.

VI gets way too much flak. I think V is a nicer package, but VI is a better game.

To be fair to the guy he's not a native English speaker - it's probably how he's seen/heard a lot of 'professional' presenting in American/English - he's clearly trying hard to be kind of professional/well presented with everything else about his videos... He's just striking a slightly overdone note/tone...

And for as kind of lackluster as VI can be is I have a fondness for it for an easy bash. It's like finding joy in a dumb godzilla movie - you're not going to the oscars with it, it's not going to ask too much of you, but it's still a good watch if you like that kind of thing... I think the at the time backlash was just because we had such high hopes for it...

I will always love IV more than I do III, something about it's atmosphere reaches out to me. Longer game, just the right difficulty to not frustrate you, plus all the little technical touches tells me IMO that this is the absolute best shmup on the Genesis to me (I'm sure some will disagree, but it's how I feel).

That's nowhere close to the world record, and worse than most of the scores on this forum.

The Galloping Ghost crew seem like good guys, but their continued habit of calling these sorts of things "world records" has always felt somewhat baffling. I get that these "WR" scores are the #1 entry on Aurcade or whatever, but they obviously know that they're not actual world record scores. Some of them are even submitted to the scoreboards here.
